The Star Theatre was a cinema in Launceston from 1937 until 1969. It is a fine example of late art-deco cinema architecture and we are lucky that it has been preserved. We had a vision to reopen The Star as a cinema that showcased quality films in a beatific Art Deco space. In addition it is a venue for the community of Launceston that can be used for a range of purposes including live music, comedy, conferences and special events. A bar and cafe offers fine Tasmanian food and beverages that can be enjoyed before, during or after the movie. The films we offer are an eclectic mix of old and new, from cult-classics to new independent releases, there is something for everyone. We are very excited to have brought The Star back to life!
The Star is a real cinema experience. Only the one screen - but some memorabilia and a bright ticket office/bar snack & cafe counter upon entry. A single screen but you can watch it - in traditional cinema mode - upstairs (if you can manage a few stairs). Great if keen on viewing the art deco features. Alternately, you can watch in a bean bag, chair, lounge, bench seat downstairs. Downstairs wheelchair accesible too. Toilets in the entrance area as well. Plenty of free 3 hour parking out front, as well as local streets. Cinema sits in a light, industrial area rather than a main shopping strip so it's never posed a problem for me. With only one screen they do well to show around 3-6 different movies a week. Staff consistently good humoured & accommodating.

A play ground where kids can have hours of fun. With a pirate play ground on the top floor; a baby room; an interactive hospital and delhi to play in small children aged from 1 - 7 will have a lot of fun. Downstairs we have 2 levels of play equipment for older children; zippi bikes; table tennis; an indoor, outdoor slide. A cafe where parents and children can enjoy some pretty delicious house baked food. We cater for all dietaries.
Fantastic place to take energetic kids.... their accompanying adults are well catered for in the adjoining cafe, which also has a kids menu.

Country Club Tasmania - The premier choice for accommodation, dining and entertainment in Launceston.
My husband and I were really impressed with the Launceston Country Club and Casino. It has beautiful decor and architecture and plenty of poker machines on two levels. They also made us feel very welcome on arrival. We dined in at Links, one of their restaurants for a buffet dinner which was $34 an adult (thursday night). Nice calvery, plenty of roast vegetables, cold meats and salads. Also a great desert buffet bar, tea and coffee included. The service here was excellent. Visit both and enjoy.
