Definitely spend a day or 1/2 day hiking up Beshtau if you have the chance! The views from the top are spectacular if its clear, including seeing Elbrus and the Caucasus Mountain range. The best route up in my opinion is from Zheleznovodsk, through the old train station. That trail is wide and very beautiful through the woods. The quickest way down is towards Lermontov on the other side. I don't recommend hiking there by foot from Pyatigorsk, it's very long and the trail is dangerous at points. It gets VERY cold and windy at the top, so come prepared! I have on average gotten to the top in 2.5 hours at a decent pace. Enjoy!

Hot springs, beautiful views of the city are just some of the treasures to be found wandering the city of Pyatigorsk. The view from the Aeolian harp stretches across the city to see the slopes of Mt. Elbrus some 80km away.
