10 Free Things to do in Punta del Este That You Shouldn't Miss

July 19, 2021 Agatha Simes

Punta del Este is known as the St. Tropez of Uruguay, thanks to its beautiful beaches, upscale resorts and swanky nightclubs. The Vegas-style Conrad Casino adds to the lively entertainment scene. For a break from surf and sand, saddle up with a local gaucho and ride horseback through the wild plains surrounding the city.

This museum is a must visit place when in Punta Del Este. It has free entry and is full of bronzes in the gardens through which one can walk. There are also two floors indoors which has a collection of paintings and sculpture by some of Latin America's most talented artists complemented by works by Dali, Chagall and others. Of particular interest are the many caricature paintings of past and current day events. The Ralli Museum is set in a beautiful building itself. This is one of the best museums I have visited offering something totally different from what one would expect.

This very nice beach is a favorite for beach-goers as well as for beach fishing. Since it's the Mansa (river) side of the PdE peninsula, it tends to have smaller waves.

Fundacion Pablo Atchugarry

Beautiful park with sculptures by the uruguayan artist Pablo atchugarry and other international artists. It also has a building with rotative exhibitions and two stages where free events are held.

We spent several days in the area of Jose Ignacio and Punta Del Este and on the last day of our holiday our guide brought us to Fundacion Pablo Atchugarry where we had the good fortune to meet the great man himself! Although hard at work with his team in his atelier, he took time to talk to us about his work and show us around. His marble sculptures are beautiful and a joy to behold. Make sure to see his Pietà located in the little chapel. Works of many other artists are on display in the sculpture garden and there is also an art gallery on the site. The addition of a cafe would greatly add to the enjoyment of the visit as this is a place where one wishes to linger. When visiting Uruguay this is a ‘must see’ place if you have any interest in art.

This is a nice walk. It is well paved and the combination of wood with the image of the ocean is almost the perfection.

Passing by going to the most south point of Uruguay. Nice church and feels comfortable when entered. We entered here on the 23rd of December and saw the nativity placed on front of the altar
