It is located in Guenu/Bueno, only 5 minutes away from Oviedo. It is the perfect setting for knowing the magic world of the Asturian 'horreo' (corncrib): its origin, evolution, types, the secret of its longevity and functionality... The expository discourse is rigorous but also enjoyable and didactic, with special attention to the children. After visiting the centre, it is offered guided tours to Bueno, in order to know and understand in place the valuable legacy of its ethnographic patrimony.

I'm very pleased to say that, contrary to usual Spanish expectations, the museum was actually open for a few hours on a Sunday. And very pleased we were... First things first, it's free. But we wouldn't have minded paying for such a treat. The informative layout, with both English and Spanish notes, is welcoming, interesting and a work of genuine passion The collection is varied, with many local artists well represented, alongside a couple of 'cameo' pieces from Picasso, Miro, Gargallo, Braque, etc. No crowds, so a leisurely stroll through the three levels, each representing different styles and periods. This was a real privilege, for which we are grateful. Not to be missed.

So without any itinerary, we proceeded to walk west from our apartment and found ourselves in a park called Campo de San Francisco. Within its grounds were carefully manicured lawns and magnificent trees punctuated with old and new low key structures, examples of which are an ancient arch, modern sculptures, outdoor cafe, children’s playground, skateboard park, and hidden ponds populated by ducks and the ubiquitous pigeons. Each tree had an information placard that identified its genus and species much like a botanical garden. Its tranquil atmosphere stands in contrast to the traffic around its periphery. It was the perfect setting to have another cafe americano!

On our visit to Oviedo, we were pleasantly surprised to see all the statues planted all over the city. We then did a little research and we were able to visit 22 of them. Amazing!!!! So many sculptures. So little time. Oviedo, the capital city of Asturias, boasts over 100 sculptures that include statues of a milkmaid and donkey based on a local character from the early 1900s, a traveller surrounded by luggage, pregnant and nursing mothers, what looks to be the world’s largest buttocks sculpture and of course, Woody Allen!

Santa María del Naranco and San Miguel de Lillo are two pre-romanic churches located in Naranco, a hill within a 30 min walk or 10 min car drive from Oviedo city center, and they're worth a visit. Plus, you'll have an extraordinary view.

I must admit that my impression of this place has been shaped not only but what I've seen but also by the live concert of organs music which made the visit to this church so memorable. The church itself has great interior with impressive altars that are also nicely described in English (a rare thing in Asturias). A great place for photographers too: interesting light on details, deep colours, shady spots. I preferred this church more than the cathedral.
