Great beer, great music and great coffee! In the "Good Beer Guide" two years on the run, The Salty Dog is so much more than simply a great pub: It's a cultural oasis!

this a really big forest with lots of different trails and walks something for every one, my 2 border collies love it there. there are 4 different car parks that I know of but you must remember that it is a forest and be prepared for some dirt and mud in places, the only thing that spoils it for me is when people leave litter or dog poo bags for someone else to clear up, I love the piece and tranquility of the trails that are off the main areas, there is also a lot of work being done near Whitegate car park, so some of the tracks and trails are closed, they are doing lots of work reestablishing the peat bogs, and getting ready to reestablish Beavers to the area

Great local country park for dog walking, tea, coffee and snacks at weekends, a lovely lake with a hide for bird watchers.

A great place to walk, cycle and much more! In the heart of the National Forest, Hicks Lodge is a former coal mining site that has been totally transformed by new plantings and exciting trails for you to enjoy. A great day out for the budding cyclist, from tearaway toddlers to young teens perfecting their skills, we’ve got a range of trails for beginner to intermediate appetites. Visit our lakeside bird hide where you can soak in the beautiful scenery and spot some unique wildlife, such as the migratory sand martins. There are also walking and horse riding paths to explore the forest, a play area and a café!

The cafe was warm and welcoming on a cold wet day. The food was excellent and we wish we could have had cake but had no room after our main course. Definitely worth a visit.

This antiques centre is a super way to spend a couple of hours. A great choice of items for sale at competitive prices and very friendly staff. The Covid social distancing measures were excellent with easy to find sanitiser points and markings on the floor. The cafe is also worth a visit - the staff were really friendly and efficient, and my partner rated the mushroom soup as among the best he’s tasted. A highly recommended experience all round.
