We stopped here on the way to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Because Pierce Stocking Drive and some other spots in the SBD area are closed (as of summer 2020), I would have to say that this is the best view of Lake Michigan at the moment. Parking is free, and we enjoyed a picnic here on one of the benches.

So I ran to the store and was completely surprised by the size. It is a large store. Well I walked in and to the right is a grocery store and to the left is a hardware store. In the middle is everything you didn't realize that you needed. They have a huge wall of jerky. But they have everything else you need including souvenirs. They had a large assortment of shirts and all the lake toys that you would want. Brought the bikes and lost a bolt holding down my daughters fender. No problem, they had one. Forgot the adapter for my daughters human sized floatee. No problem, they had one. It is an oasis in the middle of a forest. And the employees are super nice and helpful.

We stumbled across this beach when visiting the lighthouse and pier. Lots of parking, really beautiful and clear water. Public restrooms, concession stands, and free parking all right beside the beach. While the first street beach got lots of waves the day that we were there, the 5th street beach had no waves as the pier blocked them all. Something worth keeping an eye on depending on if you want waves or not!

This is a beautiful spot. Loved walking the deck walkway over the preserve. Enjoyed watching the birds along the way and identifying plants and wildflowers. It is an easy enoyful way to commune with nature.

A really nice beach that we stumbled across while driving up the coast. Public restrooms, pavilions, playgrounds, and free parking are plenty. The waves were great the day that we were there and the color of the water was fantastic.
