Peter Jarver Gallery is a large and beautiful, iconic art gallery featuring Peter Jarver's incredible, spectacular, panoramic, landscape photographs of Australia. These are the finest award-winning images. A must-see while visiting Kuranda, the village in the rainforest. Both overseas and domestic visitors LOVE Peter's breathtaking images.
We visited the Peter Jarver gallery by chance and were not disappointed . The landscape photography on show was stunning, enough for us to purchase one. The best landscape photography we have had the pleasure of viewing, thank you Peter Jarver ! The depth and detail of the photos are stunning . We cannot wait to have one of Peters works on our living room wall for years of pleasurable viewing .

Emu Ridge Gallery is the famous Fossil/Gemstone Museum and gift shop in the township of Kuranda, Far North Queensland; well known for displaying a life-size, museum quality Allosaurus skeleton. It all began as a collaboration between two enthusiastic and passionate gemstone fossickers, Chris Maaten and Shane Hebbard. Chris and Shane spent many decades fossicking, cutting and polishing the crystals and gems found and soon turned their hobby into a business, officially commencing in July, 2001. Proudly celebrating 18 years of being open as of the 1st of July 2019, Chris and Shane continue to source natural authentic Gems, Crystals, Minerals and Fossils from likeminded fossickers and collectors from around the world with Australia being the main source. Our gift shop consists of a wide range of Australian gemstone jewellery, locally sourced gems, crystals and fossils. Chris and Shane hope to share their passion with their free Gemstone and Fossil Museum that runs underneath the shop.
On more than a few occasions I've visited this gallery and i'm always happy with the outcome.Chris and Jasmine are great hosts. The opals are vast and well priced.Clean and neat displays with bright lighting.I was pleasantly surprised with the discounts I received on my opals and they also came with their own cellophane display boxes. All in all a great time I had and thanks again Chris for the information you gave me about the lighting for my own display cabinet at home.See you all next time I'm in Kuranda. Highly recommend even if you don’t do the Skyrail or train you can easily drive to the falls and follow down the natural wetlands to the viewing platform.

Welcome to Kuranda Candy Kitchen the home of fine handmade rock confectionery. Located in the Kuranda Village on the Cairns Hinterland our beautiful candy store can be found by the enticing smells wafting down the streets from the store. We proudly make all our products by hand and display live candy making demonstrations most days.
We decided to walk down to the train station instead of taking the bus - and so glad we did! We found this little treasure trove which provided a delicious collection of sweets for our relaxing train ride back to Cairns. Absolutely delicious. Can I say delicious just one more time... I saw on the window that they can custom make sweets for you for special events.... good to know!

This trip provided a very informative tour showing all stages of the butterflies life span. An opportunity to see a variety of butterflies and learn plenty. Wear bright colours or colours that can be picked in UV light and you might find yourself lucky enough to be mistaken as a flower and have some butterflies land on you.

We specialise in local Aboriginal Rainforest Art as well as artwork from indigenous Central Australian artists. Aboriginal culture did not have a written language, instead their laws, stories and social behaviour was passed on in the form of song, dance and drawings.

I took my mum and dad for a walk to Glacier Rock from the Speewah western approach. It was also my first attempt at getting to Glacier from this route (the most popular being from the carpark at the end of Stoney Creek Road in Kamerunga). The hike involves the following: -Drive up the Kuranda Range and continue until you reach the Speewah exit on the Kennedy Highway (a few kms after the Kuranda village turn off on the left) and drive to Speewah Conservation Park (follow the signs) -Start the track from the carpark – the first section takes you 765m along Djina-Wu track through some beautiful shaded boardwalk and creek crossings -You will then come to the start of the Douglas Track – follow the Douglas Track through beautiful rainforest for 3.75km until you come to the turnoff to Glacier Rock (keep on the Douglas Track and do not turn off onto Gandal Wandun track at the 2km mark) -Head up the track to the top of Glacier Rock (turn right at the sign) which is about 260m uphill after the turn off -Enjoy world class views out over Cairns from the summit before you head back the same way you came -If you have access to 2 cars, you may like to park one car at the Stoney Creek Rd eastern approach and then drive to Speewah so you can come back past Red Bluff (for more spectacular views inc crossing over the Kuranda railway line) and finish at Stoney Creek where you can cool off with a swim at one of the pools on the track up to the Stoney Creek weir This section of Barron Gorge National Park is a cassowary habitat and sightings are possible (we saw several droppings but did not encounter an actual cassowary on this occasion). It is quite a challenging walk but I wouldn’t say strenuous (despite some uphill sections towards the end). It is longer than the Eastern approach from Stoney Creek Rd, but easier in terms of elevation.
