Driving up to the castle we began to see the lovely walled town of cobblestone streets. The castle sitting atop the hill became our hone for two nights and what a home it was! Lovely rooms with updated bathrooms, appropriately decorated. Ours had a little sitting room and a beautiful view of the vineyards below. The restaurant serves good regional food and a plentiful breakfast. I hope we’ll be back some day!

Currently studying at a sommelier school, this kind of visits and degustations are of high value to me. Loved the visit to chapel and winery premises. These, as well as the degustation, are very informative - you get the information both on the history of manor-house and winery, as well as production step-by-step. Particularities of wine-growing and production are explained. I had a full degustation, which included most of wines, except for basic Lenda, rose, late harvest and the high end Julio Bastos Alicante Bouschet. When booking, do make sure what kind of wine-tasting program you want (as prices vary a lot), keep the confirmation (some confusion with bookings is a possibility) and leave the non-drinkers behind (no reduced price just for tour - non-drinker participants will pay as much as those who do wine-tasting) I wish there was an opportunity for some family members to join just the guided tour for reduced priced. The winery didn't offer such possibility, so I had to go alone, while my husband and daughter went for a walk in Estremoz. Otherwise they'd have to pay 40+€ for a full package.

This area, Estremoz, Elvas, Badajoz featured a great deal in the Peninsular War and you can really feel it here and at Elvas. You can imagine the troops stationed here and with the view from the top can understand why this site was fortified. The street are terribly narrow. It’s easy to get lost but try and find the pousada as the buildings there are lovely.
