The cathedral was built in a Neoclassical design in the 1830s. The adjacent bell tower which was destroyed by the Communists after WW2 and rebuilt in 1997.The simple design with pleasing doric columns and a pretty dome are complemented by the very pretty mosaics inside.

The convent is within walking distance from the center but it's far from other attractions, so you may be tempted to skip it. Don't. It is a quiet place, with a beautiful church. Quite simple, actually, but it does provide the ambience of a religious location.

A wonderful expanse of ground is dedicated here in Chișinău to those who gave their lives during World War II. The Eternal Flame burns symbolically and the large red and pink coloured structure - resembling five 25m high rifles - stands proudly at the centre of this park. It is free admission to the Victory Memorial and very poignant with other monuments and carvings to be seen throughout.

The church is right in the heart of Chisinau and easy to find in the park. It's fairly plain looking from the outside, but the inside is the usual spectacular (compared to non-orthodox christian churches) display of decoration. Definitely worth a visit and ideal if you want some peace and contemplation.

This church is a solutley beautiful both inside and out. The exterior somewhat looks russian. The interior is clean and decorated beautifully with an exotic touch. There is an area to light your candle (for a small donation) and say a prayer. Really a must see.

A memorial to the Soviet soldiers from Moldavia who lost their lives in the Afghanistan War, a war that lasted 9 1/2 years. This war is also referred to as the Soviet Union's Vietnam War or the Silent Bear. The similarities between the Soviet Afghan War and America's Vietnam War are almost identical. Both Soviet Union (9 1/2 years) and the USA (8 years) lost wars that they believed they would win in only a few months; but were severely defeated. Both the Soviet Union and USA retreated and evacuated Afghanistan and Vietnam. Both wars were political. This is considered one of the leading causes of the fall of the Soviet Union.

My favorite park in Chisinau and I can be spotted here often. Cascade Stairs, better known as Waterfall Staircase is an amazing site having multiple fountains and the waterfalls light up in the evening. The staircase is popular for wedding photos. It's 2 1/2 kilometers around the lake- popular for walkers, joggers, bikers, and you can even rent carts to pedal around the lake. The wooded areas have hiking trails, plenty of benches for a good rest or to just enjoy the view, a beach area, playgrounds, and multiple concessions. The Sculpture of Skateboarders and a LARGE chess board are located here.

We were on our way back to the airport after our tour of Moldova when our marvelous tour guide took a detour to show us this place and I'm so glad she did. It's so picturesque, a real fairy tale place and one of the highlights of my trip to Moldova. We were told that there are plans to expand the open air museum but it could take a while as there's no actual timetable for the planned expansion and from what we were told this is fairly normal for Moldova so it could be a good few years yet before there's any more to see on this site. Having said that what there is to see is utterly charming. You only need 30 minutes or so but you'll probably take some of the best pictures here.
