10 Food Tours in Sydney That You Shouldn't Miss

February 12, 2022 Elouise Mccaul

Sydney offers plenty of historical and contemporary Australian flavor. The marvelous Sydney Opera House looks like a great origami sailboat, floating peacefully in a harbor. Wander the narrow cobblestone streets of The Rocks and then take in a street performance on the Circular Quay before heading into the Museum of Contemporary Art. The views from the Sydney Tower Eye observatory are epic – use this chance to get to know the layout of the city from high above.

After months cooped up, this tour reignited my love affair with Sydney, our home city. My 8yo daughter and I were collected by Peter yesterday morning from our home for a day of many firsts for both of us. My daughter was super impressed that his immaculate VW van was classed as a limo so we could take the bus lane like VIPs! Peter was so knowledgeable, being a Sydney-sider born and bred (whereas I am not), was terrific company, and had thought of every single detail so we could just relax and enjoy so many experiences that I realistically couldn’t/wouldn’t put together myself. Before the pandemic, I wouldn’t have thought to tour my home city, but I fully recommend this experience as Peter made everything easy. I now have a long list of activities to get away from the screens and take advantage of our harbour city.

We joined Matt on his online bushwalk as a special activity for our mostly migrant adult leaners and their teachers. As a group of Melbournians in the middle of lockdown we especially appreciated the magnificent views, the trees, the feeling of fresh bush air, the off-track experience and Matt's fabulous commentary. He made it enjoyable and educational for all of us and I would highly recommend this tour for a taste of the Aussie Bush!

Wine tours are nothing without the perfect surroundings in which to indulge. Nestled inland from Newcastle, the Hunter Valley is a mere 2 hour drive from Sydney and is home to wineries, luscious farmland, art galleries, golf courses and native wildlife. On this small-group tour with no more than 16 participants you’ll taste Australian made wines at three boutique wineries, paired with a food menu to compliment every drop. Before leaving Sydney, you’ll visit the Sydney Fish Markets to purchase fresh seafood to be used in the menu and stop in the Hawkesbury region for breakfast. Your guide is not just any old guide – he is your cook as well, and is a qualified chef! We do this to make sure that the food you get to eat matches your tour and the wines you are tasting to perfection. Our mission is to make your day not just an outing, but an expedition, exploring vineyards, and experiencing first class cooking in idyllic surrounds.

My husband and I received a birthday voucher for this experience from our children, and it was certainly money well spent. Jimmy the owner from start to finish produced a magical day for us all, from an insight into the functionality of the fish markets and breakfast in Brooklyn, to preparing gourmet dishes to pair with the lovely wines at each winery visited in the Hunter Valley. We would certainly recommend this tour to everyone and hope to have the opportunity to experience it again in the near future.

My husband and I attended the "Taste of Vietnam" tour in Cabramatta. Thoroughly enjoyed the day in this vibrant hub of Sydney and the food and organisation was excellent. We have attended several of these Taste tours--and have never been disappointed and this one was no exception. The young tour guide was efficient courteous and attentive. He made sure that all participants were well catered for. This was particularly important to us as my husband is elderly--and not as energetic as the younger members --but Tyrion--our guide made sure that he did not miss out on anything. Highly recommend these interesting tours. Nerina--Eastlakes
