Having a free afternoon in Budapest I decided I should take a walking tour to get better acquainted with the city. A friend suggested one of Robert’s, having had an enjoyable excursion with him a few weeks previously, and I chose his “4 sites : 4 stories” tour, which covered the areas around the Central Market in Pest and Gellert Hill in Buda. Both Robert and this tour were good choices. It’s an interesting area with a lot of history and Robert had a great deal of information about it, much of it backed up with illustrations and photographs of how the various sites looked in the past. He had a wealth of stories, both about this area and about Budapest generally, which made the tour come alive – I had a number of questions during our walk and he was able to answer them all immediately! Robert is an affable host, speaks excellent English (he’s spent time in the UK) and clearly loves his subject. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour, it really helped me to feel more “grounded” in Budapest and I shall certainly choose another of his tours if – when! - I return to this wonderful city - köszönöm szépen, Robert, thank you very much!

The Great Market Hall is Budapest’s biggest covered market, but with three stories to explore, it’s hard to know where to start. Make the most of the market on a tour that showcases its wares and their place in Hungary’s cuisine and culture. Peruse the stalls, get your guide’s take on the products, and enjoy tastings equivalent to a meal—all to ensure a more enriching experience than visiting independently.

Inclusions: Bottled water, Food tasting, Local guide

My partner and I really enjoyed our market tour and cooking with Oliver. He gave us lots of information about the market and was very passionate about cooking. We enjoyed making our three courses and spending the afternoon with Oliver who was very friendly and talkative. The wine was delicious and so was the pálinka! My favourite course was the Gulyás. Overall a very chilled afternoon of cooking, drinking and eating with good company - what else could you ask for!

Nicholas was very kind and nice to us and showed us some great food. If the amount of food and drink was worth 55 euro a person was our only doubt. But good recommendation if you want to get your bearings in the city and try new foods. (good tour if you are on day 1 of your trip).

Budapest is handily described as a city split in two by the Danube—Buda being the quieter hilly half and Pest the livelier commercial heart of the city. This walk is an exploration of the culinary and historical side of residential inner Buda. It reveals those off-the-beaten track places to eat, shop, and drink which are frequented solely by locals. Inner Buda is a distinct neighborhood with many fascinating layers of history. From the Ottomans who once inhabited the area (Gül Baba’s tomb is here) to World War Two’s Battle of Budapest (which devastated the neighborhood) and the following Communist period, many historic happenings have taken place in this now quiet residential district. We invite you to show off our lesser-visited Buda neighborhoods, where authentic local culinary life is entwined with exciting history and hidden foodie spots!

Inclusions: English-speaking, food-specialized guide, Generous food and drink tastings (enough for breakfast and lunch), Visits to a Buda Market Hall and four to five additional venues, Many stops for photos, questions, and occasional food shopping, Bottled water, Coffee and/or Tea, Alcoholic Beverages

Exclusions: Gratuities

My husband and I had a two person wine tasting (given to me as a birthday gift) and we had an AMAZING experience! Because of the COVID situation, private tasting are be offered at the group price and so we had the entire place to ourselves. We tasted 5 wines, if I remember correctly, and were each given our own charcuterie plate to complement the wines. We learned so much about the history of wine in Hungary and the different regions. Highly recommend - was a very special experience.

My tour guide was Endre - charming, cheerful, punctual, well-travelled and with ridiculously good English. The private tours are customisable - we customised mine so much that the four hour tour took nearly six fascinating and enjoyable hours. We also “customised” coffee and cake into Villányi Franc! You’ll cover a lot of ground on this tour but it’s not physically demanding thanks to clever tactical use of public transport. Endre was particularly good at highlighting the subtle details and history that one would otherwise miss - particularly how the different epochs are represented in the architecture (often even within the same building).
