10 Food & Drink in Salzburg That You Shouldn't Miss

September 29, 2021 Nobuko Falco

It’s been 200 years or so since he lived here, but Mozart is still very much Salzburg’s favorite son. Visit the composer’s residence and birthplace, then explore the Altstadt (Old City), taking in the baroque architecture. If your musical tastes run more "Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens" than "Requiem in D Minor," catch one of the many Sound of Music tours and follow in the footsteps of the Von Trapps.

An Exvellent Experience! Johann gave us easy to follow directions to making both Apple Strudel and Salzburger Nockerl, which were both delicious, and our creations turned our perfectly. The goulash he served for lunch was equally yummy. All the recipes were provided for us to make later when arriving home. The atmosphere was very unique and a definite highlight of our trip. Don’t pass this experience up! Amazing!

Schranne Market

Farmer's market located right in front of St. Andrew Church. Only opens on Thursday. You will find products that you might not find in supermarkets. We managed to buy wild berries jam, sauerkraut from barrels and etc. there. We will go again the next time we are in Salzburg.

Augustiner Braustubl

Reviewed By Brittany_11_10 - Los Angeles, United States

Augustiner Braustubl is an incredible beer hall in a beautiful city. The old wooden hall is spacious, with plenty of seating for your own party or for mingling with strangers/soon-to-be-friends. Food stalls line the hallway outside of the main hall, and you can get all kinds of delicious eats and treats, from brats to butter cheese (so good!) to olives, breads, desserts. Plenty of options. As for the beer, it's tasty (there were two kinds when we were there, but they tasted pretty similar: smooth and highly drinkable), cheap for the area (something like 7 euro for a liter?), and easy to get: you grab a stein off the shelf, pay the person at the window, get a ticket, and then get your beer. The beer sloshes, some spills on the sticky floor, you take it away and drink it, rinse out your stein, and repeat. Would go again for sure, and highly recommend it to others. There's a paid parking lot onsite, which makes things easy.
