During the Civil War, Knoxville's Mabry-Hazen House served as headquarters for both the Confederate and Union armies. Today you can visit the house and other historic homes in this eastern Tennessee city. Among Knoxville's other attractions are museums, a zoo and World's Fair Park, site of the 1982 World's Fair. University of Tennessee sports draw lots of fans, as does the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. To see Knoxville from the water, take a leisurely riverboat ride down the Tennessee River.

I visited Post Modern Spirits a couple of years ago on the Tennessee Whiskey Trail. Stanton went out of his way on a cold, rainy Labor Day to accommodate a distillery tour for me and a lady friend. At the time, I bought a bottle of Kore Vodka as a Christmas gift for my brother. Little did I know that event would set off a unique chain of events. My brother loved the vodka, immediately dropping Tito's and finding his new favorite spirit. When I was in Knoxville, I would stop at Post Modern and purchase a few bottles for him to take back to his home in South Carolina. Fast forward to 2020. Stanton is the guest judge for gin production on the TV show, Master Distiller. My brother and sister are big fans of the show. This past weekend was the time for us to visit the distillery. The operation is located in a historic train depot in the Old City area of Knoxville. The building has good off-site parking and is within a short walk of the Old City's restaurants and bars. Post Modern has a bar in their building selling their branded cocktails and spirits. Stanton was a gracious host, providing us with facts and information about the distillation of their spirits, their future plans, and his experience on the Master Distiller show. My siblings were elated to meet Stanton in person, take a few photos, and sample their gins and vodka. Personally, I really liked their single malt whiskey. Post Modern Spirits sets the standard for creative non-moonshine spirits in Tennessee. They have a unique history and clear vision for a bright future in the spirits business. Great people that make you feel at home in their distillery.

Knox Whiskey Works

Knox Whiskey Works is a small batch, craft distillery based in Knoxville, TN. Our mission is to harness the collective skill, passion and expertise of East Tennessee to create authentic, distinct and delicious hand-crafted spirits. Led by our head distiller, we craft our spirits in small batches from locally sourced products. We work with local farmers and artisans to create unique spirits representative of East Tennessee. Knox Whiskey Works is Knoxville's first (legal) distillery. Established in 2015, we craft award-winning Old City Heirloom Corn Whiskey from local corn. Once distilled, it is placed in new charred oak barrels to rest until it becomes bourbon. Along with our corn whiskey, we produce Jackson Ave Gin, Marble City Pink Gin, Cold City Old Brew Coffee Liqueur, Deals Gap Dragon Tail Whiskey, Dry Gap Gin, Fleur de Vie Liqueur, Tennessee Valley Vodka, Tennessee Tailgate Orange Flavored Vodka, Three Rivers Rum, and new products are always "in the Works."

On a trip to Tennessee, I thought it'd be a great idea to find a distillery and return to New England with some of there special Bourbon or alcoholic beverage. Coming across this place in Knoxville was awesome. These guys are just the best and I had a great time sampling their products and getting great advise from the what felt like my personal guide to small batch distilling. I tried one of their specialty cocktails and sampled various beverages. Deciding with their Bourbon Whiskey and their Pink Gin. Hopefully I get to return to try more of their products.
