A short (15ish minute) ferry ride across the James River affords a unique, from the water view of the Jamestown settlement much as it must have looked to settlers to the new world.

Hi! It’s well worth a visit anytime. Stay at the 1669. There is a ferry from Newport, New London and another from Galilee in the summer and the one in Galilee runs all year. Took forever before they had their first case of COVID 19 and it’s basically non-existent there. It’s just under an hour by ferry. Definitely rent a bike or bring your own. From where the ferry lets you off you can pedal round the rolling hills either on the eastern side past the Southeast light or up the western side to the North lighthouse. Lots of great hikes. If you just want to relax and see the major scenic points of interest there are cheap tours by local characters in beat up limos who will also fill you in on the smuggling and houses of ill repute that flourished there during Prohibition. They should know since their families have been there forever if you check out the your tour guides names on some old gravestones in the only cemetery on the Island that overlooks both Old and New Harbor. Have fun!!

I was very impressed with the service on the Salem Ferry. My plan was to take the Salem Ferry round trip from Boston. The water was very rough that day. I was on the first ferry of the morning. Before getting on the ferry, the crew warned us that it would be very rough and we could return our tickets if we decide not to board. Several of us decided to board anyway and take our chances. They were very clear about the rough waters and told us that they would decide on that trip if they would be canceling service for the rest day based upon this trip. It was rough. We all sat indoors hanging onto the tables. It was definitely bumpy! The crew was wonderful and made us as comfortable as possible. One of the crew members spoke individually to each group and helped us with any directions and maps that we might need upon disembarking in Salem. They decided to cancel the rest of the day. When we landed, they quickly refunded my return fare and explained how easily I could take a train back to Boston. I was very pleased with the way they handled the situation. They crew and ticket people were great. I would definitely use the Salem Ferry Service again.

Whether you're crossing the Delaware Bay for a fun day trip or as part of a long-distance trip, on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, your journey is sure to be a memorable one.Enjoy historic lighthouses, picturesque harbors, oceangoing vessels, unique seabirds and, just maybe, your very own dolphin escort! The 17-mile, 85-minute cruise between New Jersey and Delaware can cut miles off a trip along the Atlantic Coast, connecting points like Wildwood, Stone Harbor, Avalon, Ocean City and the rest of the Jersey Shore with Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, Sussex Shores, Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island, Ocean City, MD, and destinations throughout Virginia. Our welcoming, modern terminals are a destination in and of themselves, with enjoyable restaurants and lounges, and well-stocked gift shops!
The trip over to Cape May was uneventful but it's always great to get out on the water. Smooth sailing on calm waters. The trip back to Lewes was a bit more exciting on several levels. The wind and tide gave us that pleasant rolling stride (yup, waves) and the fog/rain kept the views to a minimum. Then! Captain announced "whale sighting port side" and he slowed down, did a circle and we all had a chance to see small whale fins cutting thru those waves. What fun! I would also commend his docking...not sure how he spun that big boat around like twirling a gal on the dance floor (nice job). Note: they are in process of upgrading all the boats but, if you have a chance, choose the Delaware ... more comfy than the New Jersey we rode on trip to the Cape.

For $5 you can take your car across the Potomac on the historic, cable operated ferry. The ride is 5 minutes. On the Maryland side there is a park, restrooms and a little country store. Glad we went.

a great way to get to the Island of Nantucket which is a great day trip or a place to spend some great vacation days. We mostly spend about a week or ten days here. a great beach is available and the town itself is a true gem. The small restaurants are very nice and so are the large ones, however the large ones tend to be a bit expensive and I like the felling I get in the smaller ones plus saving money also. The small places to stay on the Island are very nice and clean and the owners are for the most part very proud of there places. The shops are varied and it is fun sometimes just to kind of window shop and pick up some small things for friends and family. The steamship is a nice, fast, clean way to go and the price is not bad. If you bike take one.If they take cars when you go over for more than a day take it. If not you will pay dearly for a rent a car service. I say this due to it was long ago I made my first trip over and someone said You do not need a car as it is a small Island,Oh,did I find out.Rented a car and left a brand new Caddy in a parking lot on the mainland. Bad move folks. This is personal advise, take it or leave it. that is an old saying but the correct part is Take it.do not leave it.so we visit and take it for the long time stays. short stay of a day or even two you can get around ok or hire a cab or bus like vehicle. Have a great time. It is an outstanding place to visit.

We came up from Boston on a late October weekend, grabbed some hot tea and sweet treats from Standard Baking Co, and hopped on the afternoon mail boat run. The un/loading at each island involved passengers, their furry companions, Amazon packages, stock supplies, and even small vehicles, which were hoisted by the boat's crane - very cool to see. This was all manned by two deck hands who, to our amusement, were a dynamic duo that not only looked but sounded like Ben and Casey Affleck ???? The Captain announced fun facts along our tour and we even got to see a couple bald eagles and the tiniest registered lighthouse. We alternated being cozy on the lower deck and being exposed to the late autumn chill on the upper bc we wanted to take in the gorgeous peak New England foliage of the islands against the setting sun on the harbor. Highly recommend this pleasant boat ride - it is a great way to see a slice of pretty Maine before dinner.
