Westchester County, a collection of towns that serve as a popular suburb for the bordering New York City, is also the gateway to the Hudson River Valley, an area that promises a plethora of outdoor activities, from sailing to bird-watching to cross country skiing. The County also contains Rye Playland, a popular children's amusement park, historic sites from the American Revolution, the African American Heritage Trail and several famous houses, including Lyndhurst, a Gothic Revival mansion.

We are a working crop farm and environmental education center, with roots dating back to the 1600's. Today we act as a regional education hub offering programs on healthy and sustainable food production, skills for small-scale suburban and urban farmers, and sustainable living practices for local communities. The farm features demonstration models for backyard farming, animal management, rainwater harvesting, organic composting, and green-roof technology. Visitors are welcome to hike the farm's 3.5 miles of woodland trails, enjoy a picnic overlooking the property, and visit our chickens and goats. We hold numerous classes and lectures, offers seasonal CSA shares, and maintain a farm stand and U-Pick program during the growing season. We also offer guided tours, classes, and field trips for school groups, garden clubs, and scout troops. We are committed to donating 10% of annual vegetable production to local food pantries and warmly welcomes volunteers.
I've visited often: to pick up CSA produce, to purchase plants and produce from the stand, to use the space as part if a knitting group, and for educational program in the classroom. It's a working farm that has areas open to the public and hosts educational and cultural events. It's not a petting zoo r a community garden, so which spaces are open and which activities are available vary. Subscribe to the newsletter to see the monthly calendar and get advance notice of events.

Farm is only open to visitors by appointment. Please send us an email to schedule a visit. Faraway Farm is home to a herd of twenty beautiful alpacas and two Icelandic Horses. Our store offers homegrown yarn and a wide selection of alpaca garments, teddy bears, throws, and many one of a kind items. Just 40 miles north of New York City, the farm is often the location of choice for fashion magazines, wedding photographers, theater companies, television shows and independent photographers. They also host educational tours, private events and workshops throughout the year.

For 25 years every summer I visit this place. In our hectic world with stress, the race for money, illness, etc., thanks God that there are still places where you can forget everything and relax your soul. Going back 100 years, you will understand how simple and unhurried people lived, despite the hard daily work.

The staff member that walked us into the field to choose our tree was a great sport. Although we were experiencing a storm and we were soaking wet he allowed us to take our time with choosing the best trees. Before leaving we purchased a few delicious treats from the Bakery....Apple cider donuts, oatmeal cookies and zucchini walnut Bread.

Thought it was to late to get a beautiful Christmas tree but Stuart's Farm had a very nice selection. This family run business went out of their way to show us several good possibilities (and it was very cold and icy). (Priced by the foot, about the same as Stew Leonard's, etc.) Found a great tree, got it trimmed and wrapped and tied onto the car pronto. They even had the bakery open and we took home the best cinnamon sugar cider donuts. Will definitely return for the warmer seasons.

They have a great outdoor patio with big umbrella to sit under. The staff is very friendly. Country vibe. Nice market with fresh veggies and organic meat. And those multi colored eggs you cant find anywhere. They sell jam's, pottery, scented things, housewares and cider. They have in and outdoor seating. They have chickens and goats. lots of seasonal activties. Will go back for apple picking. It's a really nice place to visit often. From the Bronx its a fifty minute trip. Easy to get to.
