Experienced orthodox tea manufacturing, a refreshing cup of tea with home made evening snacks and welcoming hosts that really take care of you. There's a huge garden of rare spices and medicinal plants in the back yard where you can walk around freely. It feels like walking inside a huge jungle. Totally awesome place to relax and experience culture.

Amba Estate

Amba Estate is an organic farm in the Uva Highlands of Sri Lanka. The farm is about 30 minutes drive from Ella, perched in a small valley above the Ravana-Ella Waterfalls, with views of Ella Rock and Lipton Seat. We produce a range of artisanal teas, coffees, spices and preserves, and we work with the local community to support a variety of educational, economic and environmental projects. We offer guests the opportunity to stay in one of the old Estate bungalows, learn more about artisanal tea-making, and enjoy our little corner of paradise. We offer tours of the farm and artisanal tea and coffee production every day at 11am. The tour is free, and you can also do a tea tasting after the tour for Rs.600 per person. No need to book ahead – just turn up.

We just spent three nights at Amba Estates Tea Farm/B&B and were thoroughly enchanted and pleased. The people are incredibly friendly from staff, to owners, to guides. We enjoyed wonderful Sri Lankan meals, great hikes including one at sunrise, and an informative tour of the tea, coffee, clove, and cinnamon fields which ended with a tea tasting. We happened to be there over Christmas and loved the kids Christmas pageant. Would love to go back!!!

Just had a lovely morning learning about Muswenna Tea in a family run tea plantation in the south of Sri Lanka. We had a very informative and guided tour from the father and son to see how the tea is made. So much work goes into making the final dried tea leaves and it tastes amazing! ????????

Another tea estate we thought but we were really glad we decided to come here. You are taken by tuk tuk and given an individual tour of the plantation and given a great cup of tea along the way. You then go tothe factory where you can see, touch and smell the tea making process which was fascinating. You also learn about the Virgin White Tea which this estate is famous for. There was a shop at the end but there was nopressure to buy anything. There were numerous teas available for taste testing, which we did, and ended up buying some , including the Virgin White Tea. We also bought a great souvenir inthe form of a book called The Suicide Club which is the story of the founder, and thattoo was very enjoyable.

Visited on 20th February 2020 On our way to Nuwara Eliya from Kandy, we had a stopover at this Tea Estate to have a look at the tea manufacturing process and a hot cup of tea. The place is beautiful and the process is knowledgeable. The Cafeteria is very well appointed and takes you back to English Imperial Ruling days. Maintained in its original form this place is a welcome break from the long journey over a cup of tea. You can also buy milk-tea at SLR 120/- and there are pastries and snacks to choose from ranging about SLR 150 to 300/-. Products of the Tea estate are on sale at the souvenir shop. You may have a look and decide accordingly. Do not miss this place on your way to Nuwara Eliya.

Agro Technology Park

Reviewed By adminmonkey - Brighton, United Kingdom

We visited the agro park as a day trip from Tangalle (about 20 minutes in a tuk tuk) and had an excellent time. There’s an open air canteen to the left of the main entrance which serves a range of tasty snacks and curries for under 100 rupees, and give you a boost before a wander around (bring water with you as there aren’t any shop facilities inside). There are however several toilets. The gardens were a fascinating guide to the crops grown in the area; most had signage in English as well describing the plant (Latin name and local), uses, crop per hectare etc. It was nice to see the spices and herbs we’d eaten so frequently being grown. Some giant termite hills are also dotted around the site. Don’t miss the free “fish therapy” on the way in: step onto the floating platform and lower your feet (if you dare) into the water and a swarm of fish will gather around you and start nibbling. We couldn’t hold our feet in for longer than a few seconds...too tickly!

Reviewed By 784tamsind - Devonport, New Zealand

Really beautiful setting and modern building. The staff are super friendly and well organised. We had a great tour guide who was very knowledgable and happy to answer all our questions. After the tour we got to sit down and relax and drink delicious complimentary tea and yummy cake (at a very good price). We would highly recommend this place!! (We also went to Pedro, and Damro is 100 times better)
