We loved being able to go out among the buffalo safely and learn about their habits, their personalities and the way they take care of the land, the natural grasses and maintain the quality of their grass-fed, grass-finished buffalo meat. We were also thrilled at how they took time to explain and have fun with our little boys! Thanks for the great experience! We can’t wait to come back!!

I drove all the way from Kansas City Missouri to come and visit Valas. This was the best decision I could have ever made! It's like a giant Halloween theme park! There are 50 attractions so you definitely will have to come back to see them all. I like that there is so much to do, and that there is so much detail into everything. Definitely a great time for the entire family!

Prairie Loft Center for Outdoor & Agricultural Education is open for scheduled activities and events. Please check our Facebook page and website for current events. Prairie Loft's mission is to teach agriculture appreciation, outdoor education, cultural traditions, and the wise use of natural resources. Experiential place-based education programs involve active exploration to learn about interactions involved in an agricultural landscape. Lesson subjects include plant science, soils, water, food and nutrition, wildlife and habitat, farm seasons, and other programs. Located just west of Hastings, Nebraska, the beautiful barns were once part of a working farm that fed over one thousand people for 80 years at the state mental hospital. Buildings on site are undergoing renovations to provide energy-efficient, multi-purpose space for expanded programs and events. Prairie Loft is maintained as a demonstration site for food production education and wise use of natural resources to the greatest extent possible.
They have all kinds of things for the kiddos to do and enjoy while visiting. School children from around the neighboring areas get to enjoy as one of their field trips through out the school year.

We stayed on the overflow parking lot as a Harvest Host visitor. Relatively quiet and pleasant for the night. We would stay here again. My wife fell in love with the grounds, especially the well organized orchards on the hills next to the parking lot. In the morning we had the DELICIOUS apple doughnuts and cider from the sales store. We added coffee and had the most pleasant morning meal. There was an amazing assortment of specialty butters, flavored sugars, jams, preserves, syrups, and sauces available. Unfortunately, we have limited storage area and could not buy the store out of their products (they are that good). There is a picnic area, playground and lots to do. There is a Learning Center, affiliated with the University of Nebraska. Clean, well maintained, and conspicuously well planned grounds show off native grasses, flowering plants and fruits plants. Botanists will have a grand time with this aspect of a visit. In a quick (and probably incomplete) summary: Good place for a Harvest Host Visit. Intellectually stimulating plantings on the grounds. A safe playground for younger visitors. Gift Shop with tempting teasing tasty treats. Beautiful orchards on the adjacent hillsides Oh-I forgot to mention the pies and the wine tasting station-go see for yourself!
