Herbs' market is the common name for this magical place where Mondays and Thursday' nights local farmers and collectors make wholeselling of their products to buyers from every corner of the country. Commerce goes around esoteric, medicinal and gastronomic plants.

We're Mexican, which means we walk markets, which we proceeded to do all over Colombia, and Bogota's Paloquemao is the Big Enchilada! The amazing variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, meats, flowers and on and on, put us in mind of Mexico City's La Merced. That's high praise. Colombia has excellent artisanal sugar, panela. The fresh blackberries brought tears to my eyes! The aisles are spacious and clean for a big market. If you are a food person, this is the place!

La galería Alameda is a local market which has all sorts of local fresh meats, fish, produce and anything else you can think of. It is overwhelming for foreigners but not insanely chaotic like other local markets in Colombia or other countries I have been at. On the outskirts of the Galería you will also find delicious restaurants and souvenir shops. When in Cali, it is worth a visit if you feel adventurous enough to sumerge yourself into something uniquely local.
