Located in the northern part of the country, high above sea level, Ulan Bator is the coldest capital city in the world. The cultural and business center of Mongolia, and a hub connecting the Trans-Siberian Railway with the Chinese rail system, Ulan Bator has become a thriving urban center in one of the most remote locations in the world. Visit the Tibetan-style Gandan Monastery, one of the few buildings in Ulan Bator to predate WWII and one of the few monasteries to survive the Soviet purge.

The perfect tour for those looking to combine some fun and easy exercise by biking through wooded hillsides and open valleys of Baga Khenty mountains. A short car transfer east of Ulaanbaatar brings you to the giant mounted statue of Chinggis Khan where the biking starts from. While bikes are being readied you can take a panoramic view of the vast steppe from an observation deck on the horses head. You'll cycle at your own pace on peaceful country roads and catch a glimpse of a life that has seemingly not changed for a few hundred years. Large flocks of yaks, sheep and goats roam the area and circular tents of local herders can be seen from time to time. Picnic lunch will be served at the day’s highest point (1750m) with a lush meadow and wooded slopes as the back drop. The rest of the day is a gentle roll across open valley with many nomadic homes dotting the scenery. By 5pm we load bikes and take a 2 hour return transfer to UB.

My wife and I had a fantastic tour of Ulaanbaatar, and the Chinngis Khaan Monument back on 28 November. Our tour guide Bayar was PHENOMENAL! He went above and beyond to explain many different aspects of Mongolia, past and present. He also made sure to accommodate our dietary restrictions for our tour lunch, but ensured we still experienced the National dishes (Tsiuvan, Buuz, khushuur) in a vegan version. We truly enjoyed our time in Ulaanbaatar, and Bayar is definitely the reason why! We plan on returning in the near future! We HIGHLY recommend this tour!

It is connected to Ulaanbaatar by a paved road of 34mi/54km. The complex includes a recreation area, restaurants, and souvenir shops occupying the base of the structure. Bachi was fast to collect money. December 2019, I made a full payment for the Mongolia tour in May 2020. Under the agreement, I can have 100% refund when I cancelled before April 2020. Due to Covid, I need to cancel the tour in March and asked for refund. After numerous emails and empty promises from Bachi, 9 months have passed and U never get my money back. In addition, he is now uncontactable. While I understand that tourism could be worst hit by Covid. The least he could do is to reply me - and if he gives a date - to honour it.

We did a day tour yesterday and it was fantastic! We visited Terelj National Park, turtle rock, a monastery with chanting monks, went to a great lookout over the city, the Ghengus Khan Statue and museum and has a tasty lunch with a nomadic family in their ger, complete with an ox drawn carriage ride across the snow. It was a really cold day and snowing in the morning, but the minivan was warm inside and the driver was very good and safe. Our guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and had perfect english. Everything went to plan and our 12 and 14 year old children really enjoyed the day as much as we did! We would highly recommend this day tour.

My tour guide Yogi was excellent. His English is a step above other tour non-native English speaking guides I've worked with. He was friendly, enthusiastic, and willing to adjust the tour to my personal interests. The itinerary was efficient, we hit on all the major spots I wanted to see. The stop at the monastery was informative for someone who knows very little about Buddhism (and Mongolia's history with it). The black market was really interesting and we spent the perfect amount of time exploring it. Highlight locations were the city lookout point and the museum. (Most skippable was the winter palace. Not entirely uninteresting, but not the most engaging.) The real highlight though was the opportunity to have in depth conversations in English with someone born and raised in Mongolia about every topic from politics to history to what life is like for the average Mongolian. Can't recommend Yogi enough! All around fantastic experience, perfect comprehensive introduction to this fascinating country!

Joining this trip offers a great opportunity to explore the history of Genghis Khan (Chinggis Khaan) by visiting Mongolia’s famous status of the hero on his horse. This statue, showing Chinggis Khaan (1162-1227) with a golden whip in his right hand gazing into the distance, has been erected at the Tsonjin Boldog site connected to many historic events in the territory of Erdene soum in Tov aimag, 54 km from Ulaanbaatar. The Mongolia “XIII Century Theme Park” is located in 98 km distance from Ulaanbaatar city, Erdene administrative unit, Tuv province. The old micro-kingdom tour to 13th century life atmosphere will leave you with an unforgettable experience.

The title says it all. The park consists of a reconstruction of six different aspects of Mongolian society in the thirteenth century e.g. a posthouse and a court as well as a shaman camp. A lot of care has gone into building it though it felt rather run on a shoestring. Pretty expensive at 55,000 TGK to go in plus 15,000 TGK for a very average lunch. It's about 100km outside UB and very spread out; a good driver is a must. The Kempinski arranged an excellent driver for us called Oogi - ask for him if you want to go, he was great.
