With depths reaching 700 feet and a length of more than 20 miles, Loch Ness provides plenty of hiding places for its legendary monster. Should you tire of searching for Nessie, this scenic section of the Scottish Highlands also delivers charming villages like Drumnadrochit and Fort Augustus, open-air Shakespearean productions, multiple golf courses and medieval Urquhart Castle. Wildlife of the non-mythological variety and ancient Caledonian pine forests can be found in the Glen Affric nature reserve.

Where to start? After a year of planning our itinerary with Nick of Aura Journeys, we put it into play with 8 days of touring with William. William is professional, but he knows how to have fun with you after he sizes you up. His humor was like spending a week with your best friend from college. Subtle, but pointed, we traded barbs and laughed away the week. No worries about spending a week with a stranger when your guide is William! His knowledge of the area was deep but if he didn't have an answer to your question, he'd look it up and have it for you quickly. He soon got to know what we liked and what we didn't, from meal times and toilet stops, to type of food and sightseeing preferences. We had daily itineraries but we would often adjust based on our own energy level or suggestions from William. Nothing was ever a problem for William. We went to several places William had never been to and he thanked US for taking him there. We ended as good friends and hated to leave him at the end of our journey. Highlights: * Always arrived early with a clean van and lots of water * Very safe driver * Served as photographer when asked - we finally have trip pictures with both of us * Flexible and accommodating * Knowledgeable - great suggestions for restaurants, activities, places to visit and places to skip * He did all the work and let us be tourists rather than trying to drive and read guidebooks while we flew past sights. Worth every penny on this 50th wedding anniversary trip

My husband and I had a wonderful day last week (Oct 2020) exploring the Northern Highlands from Inverness with Craig. Prior to our visit, I communicated with Craig via email to plan our day. I had a few things in mind that I wanted to see, such as the Culloden Battlefield, Clava Cairns and Dunrobin Castle, but mostly explained that we wanted to get a sense of the history and culture and stop and take in the beautiful landscapes and take photos. Craig delivered all that and more, exceeding our expectations, with his knowledge of the area and his delightful stories. In addition to all of the above, Craig whisked us off to a surprise visit to fascinating Wardlaw Mausoleum to learn more about the Clan Fraser (Outlander fans will understand!), Beauty Priory, Shin Falls to see the salmon leaping (yes, we did get to see actual salmon!). We had another surprise at Dunrobin Castle with a Falconry demonstration, which normally would not be operating this time of year. Many stops along the way to see beautiful vistas, Loch Fleet World Heritage site where we had a good view of the seal colony, and Clootie Well. Craig was the ultimate host, picking us up and dropping us off at our Inverness hotel, driving us in comfort, complete with safety measures of hand sanitizer and masks, and more importantly a picnic hamper full of snacks. He was very responsive and communicative before and after our trip. I highly recommend Craig as your personal tour guide to the delightful Highlands.

Fixed price for up to five passengers and if you book then you will be getting me, Andrew as your tour guide. I have several years experience both as a walking tour guide and as a driving tour guide. I like things to be fun, interesting and flexible. Because I use a car and not a small bus then the tours can be dynamic and personalised easily. I can also go down a few roads that the tour buses cannot go and park in spots where the tour buses cannot park. As far as possible I steer clear of the hoards of other tourists. I like to have fun. My head is jam packed full of stories and every time I learn something new that makes my jaw drop I just cant wait to tell folk about it. I love questions. Ask me anything you like but as far as you can please just ask Scotland questions. I don't do relationship questions without some potentially terrible answers. Ask at your own risk. I'm happy if my lovely visitors are happy. I'll do my very best for you.
Inclusions: Private transportation, Air-conditioned vehicle, child safety seats, Bottled water
Exclusions: Lunch
Andrew took us on a breathtaking scenic two day tour of Scotland visiting many stunning lochs, glens and castles of Scotland with an overnight stay in Oban and a cruise to see some very cute seals Andrew was an excellent tour guide with so much local and historic knowledge of all the areas we visited, friendly and entertaining, nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended and would definitely book with him again.

The success of Diana Gabeldon’s “Outlander” novels, and the resultant TV series, has been something of a phenomenon and has brought a new focus and a virtual explosion of interest to many of the historic sites throughout Scotland. The Highlands is the centre stage of the unfolding story both in fact and the tapestry of fictional story. Hame Tours have responded by creating an “Outlander” day, integrating features of our existing tours which have an Outlander connection into an eight-hour itinerary with visits to the actual sites which either feature in the series and books, or are almost certainly the inspiration for the characters and events portrayed. These are, of necessity, not always where the filming was undertaken but are the real theatre and stage of this romantic, but tragic, period of history. You will visit the following places in the company of our driver/guide whose commentary will bring alive the relevance of these visits.
Inclusions: Driver/guide, Live commentary on board, Hotel/port pickup and drop-off, Private tour, Transport by private vehicle
Exclusions: Gratuities
My guide, Seoras, was exceptionally knowledgeable, and his passion for Scottish culture, the Highlands and the Gaelic language is palpable. He is a natural storyteller, eager to regale you with tales both personal and epic. I had the absolute pleasure of touring Inverness, Culloden and Chanonry Point. Including visits to famous inspirations for the book and tv series Outlander. Serolas was incomparable with his generosity and eagerness to share. Unmissable tours with amazing guides!!

I do understand that covid circumstances are very challenging for tourism all over the world but the treatment we received today from Greyline Scotland was really substandard. We were announced late the previous day (too late to book another excursion) by Andy Wilson (a very rude person) that our excursion was cancelled due to too few participants (not financially profitable!) and to be refunded I had to contact GetYourGuide without no clue of their phone number nor e-mail address. Mr Wilson didn’t even make a small effort to answer my last message! I cannot avoin comparing our treatment to Rabbies company in Aberdeen which organised a tour even to only one person. Grayline Scotland, a company really worth avoiding!!

The Scottish Highlands are part of a historic region of Scotland you should definitely visit while in Edinburgh, especially Loch Ness. The dramatic landscape of ancient rocks, deep valleys and sapphire blue lochs will enchant you on a scenic private full-day day trip. For 13-hours, you'll see the best the Scottish Highlands have to offer plus the famous Loch. From the royal court of Linlithgow Palace to the battles of independence that took place at Stirling Castle. Get to know the tragic massacre of Clan MacDonald and hear about the life of Scotland's famous son, Rob Roy. Besides the fascinating yet turbulent history, you will get to enjoy the mesmerizing landscape of the Highlands and admire the nature that surrounds you. With many pit stops for breaks and photo-taking, you can truly capture the essence of the Highlands. See the indigenous hairy cows, wander through quaint towns unravaged by time and explore villages that offer a peek to how locals live.

Evelyn is an absolutely fantastic tour guide. She really knows her city well and brings the myths and legends to life with her amazing stories. The whole family enjoyed the afternoon (despite the rain, which didn't really matter) and in fact it was the highlight of our weekend in Edinburgh. I would thoroughly recommend the myths and legends tour with Evelyn to anybody who is planning a visit to this really interesting city.
