Katunayake (කටුනායක in Sinhala, கட்டுநாயக்க in Tamil), is a suburb of Negombo city in Western Province, Sri Lanka. It is the site of Bandaranaike International Airport or Colombo Airport, the primary international air gateway to Sri Lanka. With the change of government in 1977 and the introduction of the open economy policy a large area was allocated to create a free trade zone (currently known as the Export Promotion Zone). This created a large amount of job opportunities for the local youth and has contributed substantially towards the country's economy.

One of the highlights of Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle is the impressive and imposing Sigiriya Rock Fortress, towering over 200 meters above the surrounding plains. This region is full of incredible and fascinating sites of huge historic importance such as the ancient ruined cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa as well as Dambulla Cave Temple so it's well worth spending a few days here to explore them all. Check back tomorrow to take a look at one of our favourite accommodation options when delving into the history of Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle.

This is a MUST DO trip when holidaying in Sri Lanka, Dambulla was designated a World Heritage site in 1991. The caves has a mixture of religious and secular painting and sculpture. There are several reclining Buddha's, including the 15m long sculpture of the dying Buddha, The ancient city of SIGIRIYA is a premier eco tourism destination in Sri Lanka which was designated a cultural World Heritage Site in 1982. Our tour started with the pick up from our hotel at Galle fort. Roshan was so friendly and extremely informative. Had a wonderful day with new friends, enjoying the scenery and hiking the Rainforest. This should be in everyone's list when visiting Sri Lanka. Loved the added bonus of Tea factory visit. Guide Wigitha made the day amazing. Although no rain in the rainforest ,this day made the hike a bit less slippery, the flora, fauna and the waterfall -- all made a lovely day. One of our Dreams was to swim under the waterfall, and we got a chance to do it here. Transportation was comfortable and efficient, and the lunch was delicious. Would highly recommend this tour and also this tour company.

The park offers everything that is needed for an exciting safari. Great landscapes, many animals, especially elephants! We were very close to the elephants and were very lucky to be able to watch a whole herd and also some baby elephants. Furthermore, I would like to emphasize our tour guide - not only did he inspire and excite us with his very good mood, he also saw many small animals with his trained eye and answered our questions thoroughly. The 3 hours passed by in no time and gave us many nice memories. Would totally recommend booking a trip with these guys :-)

The booking was easy and the driver was very nice and on time. However, my advice to any future travelers.. If I was to do it all over again, I would skip the following! The Gem factory tour (unless you are looking to buy expensive jewelry), The Herb Garden tour (unless you are looking to buy very expensive herbal remedies), The Tea Factory (you can buy this tea in any shop including duty free). Instead I would do both the elephant orphanage and the elephant sanctuary. The good thing about this tour is that you can choose whatever it is that you want to do and see in advance.
