The Retreat at Ngorongoro is a meticulously bird themed lodge set within 30 acres of land with clear emphasis on nature and birdlife in the area. As you walk around the lodge, you will be amazed at how nature has been integrated into this development. Due consideration has been made to ensure that space, privacy and close to nature experience is enhanced.
lets start with the basics. The rooms were wonderful... we had a villa. Clean, roomy, with fireplace and terrace. Updated large bathroom. The grounds of the place are stunning. Well manicured ... tons of flowers and variety of fruit trees... most are labled so you can identify them. The pool is stunning, and the lodge itself is just lovely. So, I must say, the photos dont lie. The physical comfort level is a 10. We were there during the slow season, but from what I heard while I was there, the other lodges were pretty full, and we were one of only a handful of people there. Not complaining, as I wasn't looking for a crowd. The food was ok. Just ok. It seemed at dinner to have a bit of an Indian flare, which I dont mind, but nothing was outstanding, whereas our other 2 accommodations were a 10+ on the food. The staff was polite. They tried to be very professional and accommodating but came off as crowding/hovering. I dont need to be asked by 3 people if my soup is good. Constant checking in during the meal became annoying and intrusive. When we asked where the washroom is in the lodge we were escorted instead of just pointing right out the main door. I dont need someone waiting outside the washroom for me...lol. Our trip of 8 days included 2 nights at this location. It was an ALL INCLUSIVE except for tipping of course. All inclusive should have included the laundry and meals (less any alcohol) as written in our contract. Our first night there they asked me to sign at the end of our dinner for the bottled water had with our meal. I signed a bill for $3.50 USD plus 18%. I asked them why basic drinks were not included with dinner, seemed odd since we didnt have any alcoholic drinks. They told us that it is not included and would be settled up when we check out. After telling our guide the next day, he apparently spoke with someone at the retreat and they said it was an error, that we would not be charged. But, the next night at dinner I ordered a juice (still no alcohol) and they had me sign for it again. This one did show up when we checked out, along with a $25 laundry bill. It surely isn't the money, but the principle ... I felt we were watch like hawks, and although we prepaid for everything they intended to nickel and dime us. The staff as I said was very nice, but they always looked terrified to make a mistake. I attributed their over attentiveness at meal time to instructions from above that they were trying to follow... no one cares that much if I like my soup or not. We met the manager while were there. He seemed nice enough, but not overly friendly and it did not appear that the staff was happy to be there. Everything was very quiet, serious, like they were told to keep their heads down and stay out of peoples way. it was a very different feel from the other 2 places we stayed, where the staff was happy and relaxed. There may be a reason why the other places nearby the crater were booked more than this one. When we were checking out we handed in our key as we headed to get breakfast in the dining room. The front desk asked if all our stuff was out of the room so they could "check the room". That is weird... check the room for what??? Do you think I am gonna spend this kind of money and steal your towels...lol??? I though that was pretty offensive. But since the tour coordinator booked this, they didn't have a credit card for me on file, so I guess they just wanted to be sure. Then of course they got me for the laundry and the juice...and yes, I did pay for it on check out. 'Follow up: After speaking with my tour coordinator, he said the Retreat was sorry for the charges and will be refunding us the $$ for the juice and the laundry. that again it was a misunderstanding. As I said before... its not the money... its the feeling you get when you feel like you are being taken advantage of.

Asha Boutique Hotel is a charmingly small, intimate and exclusive beach lodge in Diani. It is lapped by the waters of the Indian Ocean. It features six spacious Swahili-styled rooms clustered around a central pool and overlooking the silver-white sands of Diani Beach. Asha Boutique Hotel entrance is over a lily pond and stands amid exquisite tropical gardens.
I chose Asha Boutique Hotel from the online reviews. However what I saw and experienced was beyond my expectations. It had everything to make this holiday one to remember and return back. Starting with Jeff who arranged a taxi pick up. Jeff shared a touching story regarding the origin of the name of the hotel. All the staff are exceptional who look after all the comforts. The rooms are tastefully decorated, reminded me of Zanzibar. The Bed was very comfortable. The room had many windows to let the breeze in. The beach is only steps away. Being a solo traveller, I felt safe here. Asha Bistro offers delicious a la carte choices, including the ones I sampled: Ugali and spinach, chicken curry, grilled fish and pumpkin soup.

We re running a small game farm on 87 hectares with a few giraffes, bontebok, springbok, eland, wildebeest, reebok, sables, kudu, steenbok, water buck and much more. A haven for wildlife with stunning views. Our 3 cottages offer our guests privacy and we guarantee you will see game during your visit. Fishing in full season at the farm. Guaranteed to catch something at the middle dam or the first bottle wine is on us! :) We also encourage you to walk or cycle the farm. We've built up some stunning picnic areas, ideal for sunsets. Families with kids, and lovers of nature are our favorite guests. Children get a chance to experience normal farm life at the bottom of the farm if they wish, and the green folks are welcome to collect their own veggies if they wish to do so. Permaculture and water conservation are a big part of our philosophy, and we try as best we can, to preserve the local ecosystem. We've done many mistakes on our farm, and we will make many more:)
Kwetu Guest Farm is a wonderful place to stay. We did two drives over the farm and saw so many animals (Springboks, Bunteboks, Gnus, Steenboks and Giraffes) and the apartment is very cozy. We can absolutely recommend staying there!

At the foot of the Middagkrans mountain and only a ten-minute walk from the beautiful village of Franschhoek, lies the historic Bo La Motte Farm, which has been returned to its 'Wine Farm' origins with the harvest being processed in the restored wine cellar. Only ten minutes walk from Franschhoek village, the gourmet centre of South Africa, Bo La Motte Wine Farm has five beautifully furnished self-catering cottages, all in their own unique settings around the farm.
We had a lovely stay at Bo La Motte. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The location is perfect, the views are out of this world, and a stroll around the farm is definitely recommended. Would not have had it any other way.

Many a childhood would have been spent playing in the world of ‘make-believe’. Within this imaginary existence many of us will have climbed and played high up in the bows and branches and, for the lucky few, built a ‘palace’ in the sky. It is this nostalgic sparkle that is all too visible in the eyes of the ‘grown-ups’ who gaze upon Tarangire Treetops for the first time. Tarangire Treetops sits serenely on the border of the Tarangire National Park, Tanzania. As you arrive at the Lodge, you are immediately greeted by a blaze of colour and a host of smiles all of which belong to the local Maasai tribesmen who have become part of the enchanting story that is Tarangire Treetops.
All I can say is: STAY HERE!!!! Forget second guessing if a treehouse is the right thing... it is! Take it from someone who has 5starred it all over the place, this is an experience not to miss. From the wonderful accommodations, private patio with a view, fresh coffee and French press in room when you wake up, your own private butler, the best food you can imagine, great drinks, beautiful surroundings with animals right in you view from the dining area or even you patio. But best of all was the staff.... happy, friendly, welcoming... made us feel comfortable and welcome from the minute we arrived, and hugs when we left. Did an in room massage with Lulu and she was wonderful. Nico helped us with everything and anything. The USB connector did not work in our room, and within 10 minutes they were there replacing it. The first dinner was outside by the fire with the Masai performing a dance for us. Treetops is about 20 minute drive into Tarangeri national park, but it is IN the Conservation area, so each day on the way to the park we saw elephants, buffalo, monkeys and much more. Worth every penny... it was our first stay of three places for our trip, and it set the bar very high for what we expected from the other two. Shower was great... beds soft, experience was priceless.

Raptor Rise guest farm was established in 2010 and has been built up over the years to offer guests the most enjoyable and relaxing time away from home. Located in Tulbagh’s incredible 'Valley of Abundance' only 121km from Cape Town and in the heart of the Western Cape Winelands, it's the ultimate countryside destination for rest and relaxation. The farm offers a variety of self-catering accommodation options, each with unique views of the magnificent surroundings – suitable for small, intimate getaways or large gatherings of up to 32 people. It's also the perfect accommodation option for wedding parties.
We have been here so many times and the accommodation just gets better and better. Usually we stay at Raptors Cottage for total peace. The calmness and serenity are just what we need as a break from Cape Town, we can still work as there is wifi here and now they have a power wall installed as well for those Eskom moments. The Barn is also lovely when it is just the two of us, the lounge kitchen and dining room are lovely with the kitchen fitted out by Malco it makes staying here so worth while. With horses and cows and sheep on the farm and plenty of birdlife along with the mountains the outside is as god as the inside. When we come with the family our sn loves the upstairs dorm room of the cottage to get away from us. We have during our many visits discovered great wine farms we have never heard of as well, Oudekloof and Lemberg being yesterdays finds along with Saronsberg, Montpellier, Oude Companies Post, Rijks and Manley. Oakhurst Olive Farm is also worth visit. At night we love the steel boma for a fire sit around with a glass of wine chatting and seeing the stars.

Week-end away with friends. We booked four cottages. Every cottage was unique and special. Very clean. Fully furnished. Lovely massive beds and great bedding. Everybody's response was "wow". Once perception of cottage and what we experienced was not the same. We experienced loadshedding over the week-end, but the farm is fully equipped with a generator which is absolutely phenomenal. Jani was accommodating to our needs, and we were able to manoeuvre within the rules of the farm. The facilities are very well kept and maintained. The result of the week-end was that High Season created lifelong fans, and we cant wait to return to the farm!
