Cooking Workshops at La Maison Arabe

The world-renowned cooking workshops at La Maison Arabe are open to hotel guests and those staying elsewhere in Marrakech. At the half-day classes, one learns the secrets of Moroccan cuisine, considered the most refined on the African continent. The workshops are run by a dada (traditional Moroccan chef), a translator (French/English), and include a visit to a nearby spice market and communal bread oven. After the workshop, during which every participant has worked alongside the dada at his or her own workstation, one dines on the delicious meal that's been prepared. The cooking workshops at La Maison Arabe have been praised by the leading international travel and food press, including The New York Times Sunday Travel Section, Travel + Leisure, Condé Nast Traveler, Saveurs, and Virtuoso Life.

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed the 3hr morning cooking class. They began the workshop by demonstrating the making of Moroccan mint tea. Our guide was very informative of Moroccan cuisine and provided us with several tasty recipes which we got to prepare in the kitchen alongside the Dada and eat on the terrace afterwards overlooking beautiful views of the medina. The riad interior was stunning and the kitchen was fully equipped and designed beautifully for the workshop. I would really recommend this class to anyone that wants to get creative with the food and spices of Morocco. Thank you la maison arabe for making this cooking experience a memorable one!

Dar Les Cigognes Cooking Class

The Sanssouci cooking school is available to resident guests and to non-resident guests on an advanced reservation basis. The cooking classes are conducted at a number of venues in Marrakech. Open since 2001, and winner of "Best Moroccan Cooking School 2011", we have taught tens of thousands of visitors the art of Moroccan cooking. Regardless of location cooking classes follow the same format, have the same team of teachers, and same set up. With a team of 5 dadas, traditional Moroccan chefs, an executive Moroccan chef, a consultant chef who has worked in one of the leading kitchens of the world, and the author of a Moroccan cookbook on our team, we are well placed to teach all aspects of Moroccan cooking. We do private classes only, so the content of the class and its format can vary. Class sizes have varied from between 1 person and up to 20 and can be in duration from one hour to multi-day, with the most popular format a half-day class. Our classes are very hands on, as we believe that you will learn by doing, tasting as you go, and repeating so that it is you who makes each dish...Sanssouci Cooking School has acted as food consultant to Yotam Ottolenghi's Mediterannean Feasts, The Hairy Bikers, Shane Dalia's Spice Journey's, and others. We have also worked with Paula Wolfert on the relaunch of her seminal work on Moroccan, Food, Culture, and Cooking--possibly the most important work in English on Moroccan food and food culture. We also supported the authors of beautiful book Colours of Maroc. We are fanatic about fresh, seasonal cooking, and making everything from scratch. Our classes are completely hands-on, involving guests in the preparation of each dish and imparting practical knowledge. All instruction is private--we do not do group classes unless it is a group that is travelling together and want to do their class together. We have a variety of typical formats, but will also create bespoke classes. The classes are suitable for everyone from beginners to professional chefs, and indeed we have even had multi-day classes with professional chefs designed to help them reformulate their own menus to include Moroccan dishes. Classes are held daily at a number of locations around Marrakech. The Dar Les Cigognes cookbook is available on Amazon UK and US and Riad Kaiss and Dar Les Cigognes both feature in Paula Wolfert's seminal new work The Food of Morocco as well as in Colour of Maroc, the new book on Moroccan food.

We had a very interesting cooking class with the added bonus of being taught many new Arabic words. Up until that point we had eaten many tajines, now we have the ability to cook them as well! 3 hours flew by as we cooked, learnt new words and cultural experiences and then ate the results of our efforts. Many thanks ladies for such a great experience. Well worth it.

Excellent experience in the foothills of Marrakech, really enjoyed the location and tuition and then the consumption of traditional tajines, real couscous, bread and Moroccan tea. We had a short guided walk around the small village and saw the local olive press. The whole experience from collection at our hotel to the meet and greet and the friendly professional staff was superb value for money and we would definitely recommend the experience, the drive itself was interesting, do it, you know you want to ????

We just went to the amal Center in Targa for a cooking class. Doha the guide did a great job explaining and translating to us how to make tagine, there was tea, there was a great chef and a great sous chef and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Beside being lots of fun you also help out a great cause and meet interesting people.
