We were lucky enough to get tickets for Donizetti's "l'elisir d'amore" and it was a most enjoyable evening in this classic five tier opera house. The staging was perfect, the singing too and the orchestra rang out the foot-stamping melodies one after the other. The lead soprano was Ukrainian, the conductor Slovenian so that it was a perfect cast for this multi-ethnic city.

Located on the north side of the town and recently restored to its former beauty, Canussio Castle is a key element to study the defensive walls of Forum Iulii, as Cividale was originally named. Founded in the middle of the 1st century BC by Julius Cesar, this area was chosen for its interesting position on an important crossroad. The castle is considered the largest architectural complex of Late-Antiquity, and the Canussio family owned it from the 12th to the 19th century, when the property was sold. Today, Trieste has a pleasant mix of historic buildings and squares (piazza). That's why the walk and sightseeing of this beautiful city are both pleasant and exciting. One of the beautiful buildings is Borsa Vecchia (Old Stock Exchange). Right next to Piazza Unita d 'Italia, there is Piazza della Borsa, with the pretty building of the Borsa itself. During the 19th century, this square was in fact used as the economic center of the city. Construction on the neoclassical building began in 1802 and it opened its doors in 1805. Borsa Vecchia served as the stock exchange until 1844 and today it is home to Trieste's Chamber of Commerce. Borsa Vecchia was designed by Italian architect Antonio Mollari. The large portico with four Doric columns gives the building its Grecian aesthetic. Building exceptionally beautifully shows the power of trade and trading. Very nice.
