Sydney offers plenty of historical and contemporary Australian flavor. The marvelous Sydney Opera House looks like a great origami sailboat, floating peacefully in a harbor. Wander the narrow cobblestone streets of The Rocks and then take in a street performance on the Circular Quay before heading into the Museum of Contemporary Art. The views from the Sydney Tower Eye observatory are epic – use this chance to get to know the layout of the city from high above.

Every Friday & Saturday evening, Bruce Glen, The Gentleman Magician presents an entrancing evening of magic and captivating Australian stories at Sir Stamford at Circular Quay - one of Sydney’s most beautiful historic hotels.
Bruce Glen's Gentleman Magician's show is not just entertainment, but also intelligent fun! His well crafted story telling intertwines with illusions, sorry Bruce, I meant "Magic". His stories are full of historical references which bring greater meaning to the whole show. The intrigue around what is to come, starts right from when you enter the foyer of the beautiful heritage listed Sir Stamford (once owned by The Ritz Carlton...), with the Concierge asking you to "Pick a card; any card" and there is so much more to follow. Thank you again to Bruce and his assistant Katherine, the evening was magical (could not avoid this adjective no matter how much I tried to resist). Regards Gillian

What a brilliant little theatre, what a fabulous production. We sat in front row seats and got the whole show experience. The theatre is easy to find and not to far from the station if you come by train. The waiting area was great. The bar had a reasonable drinks selection. The whole intimate mode of the performance simply adds to the engagement you get with the overall performance. Brilliant

KXT is the latest venue to join Sydney's new inner city theatre precinct. Located in the heart of the city on Level 2 of the iconic Kings Cross Hotel, Sydney's newest theatre hub for the arts is just a short walk up the hill from the Old Fitz Theatre, and down the road from Griffin. *Please note; KXT is a Strict 18+ venue *Show prices vary for each production. Check the website for details.
This is a unique theatre - 2nd floor of a pub at Kings Cross (right across from the CokeCola sign). The actors perform free but they are very accomplished and many have a long line of credits to their names. Check out the audience too for familiar stars of the theatre! I've just seen "Dresden" by Justin Fleming and it was a great show. Strong story with accomplished acting. Riveting performances. We couldn't stop talking about it afterwards. The action is "close" - you are right there with the seats usually lined up on each side of the performance space. It gives you a good feel for theatre. For other plays, maybe check out the Sydney Morning Herald reviews to see if what is playing interests you.

One of the most iconic buildings in the world – the Sydney Opera House is an architectural masterpiece and vibrant performance space. It's a place where the past shapes the future, where conventions are challenged and cultures are celebrated. Step inside and discover the stories that make the Opera House so inspiring. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, a first-timer or an aficionado, the Sydney Opera House has something for everyone.
We have been travelling around in Australia for 9 weeks with friends from Austria and Switzerland. Today we visited the Sydney Opera House at 11:15am. The guides name was Bella. Lovely energetic young lady! It was the BEST, and only tour in the entire of Australia that my friends understood every word of the places she took us to today. Wonderful and very articulate when she speaks. Clear concise and entertaining. It was exactly one hour tour with fantastic stories, great photo opportunities, brilliant setup of lights for the illusionist and the “bumping out” and maintenance of the Joan Sutherland Theatre! Finally tour concluding with a happy ending in the Utzon Room. The building truly is remarkable inside and out with fantastic people working. Must see for all. We are glad we did this and took our friends here today! Do the tour!

I have been to this theatre many times over the years and I always get a thrill out of arriving at the Art Nouveau foyer and finding my seat in the splendour of the auditorium. As the stage area is limited compared to larger newer theatres, the shows here now tend to be for smaller productions or solo performers. Often shows are only on for a few days so be quick if you see something you want to see.

Sydney Theatre Company has been a major force in Australian drama since its establishment in 1978. The Company presents an annual season of diverse productions at its own venues at The Wharf and nearby Sydney Theatre at Walsh Bay, and as the resident theatre company of the Sydney Opera House. Andrew Upton became Co Artistic Director with Cate Blanchett at the beginning of 2008 and commenced his solo tenure as Artistic Director in January 2013. On a recent visit to Sydney, my wife and I attended a performance of Bertolt Brecht’s The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui at the Roslyn Packer theatre. The production was superb with strong performances all round from the cast including Hugo Weaving. The use of the video cameras to project the players onto the backscreen was a great innovation and got the audience close to the players even if they were off stage. We were lucky enough to get superb seats in the middle of the front row of the balcony on the day of the performance because of some late returns. There was no interval but the story was so engrossing it didn’t matter. The theatre was excellent with great acoustics.
