Woven with wild greenery and Gaelic legends, the Emerald Isle is one of Europe’s most prized jewels. Rugged Atlantic beaches and mystery-shrouded sites rub shoulders with the cosmopolitan cities of Belfast and Dublin, where literary history and warm Irish hospitality are always in abundance.

Dublin's newest oldest theatre. Enjoys contemporary takes on the classic and the excitement of the emerging artist. Smock Alley was the first Theatre Royal built in Dublin. John Ogilby opened it in 1662 as part of the Restoration of the British monarchy and King Charles II in 1660, along with the London’s Drury Lane (1662) and the Lincoln’s Inn Fields (1661). It was the first custom-built theatre in the city and still remains in substantially the same form, making it one of the most important sites in European theatre history. For more than a century, Smock Alley put Irish theatre on the European map, acting as the very core of an Ireland striving to find its own voice. If we are to ask historically what makes theatre such an important part of culture today, we would need to go back more than two centuries before the founding of The Abbey Theatre, to the Smock Alley Theatre of the 17th century.
Irelands oldest theatre is still putting on fantastic productions. Tickets are always good value and there is a really eclectic number of performances. Staff are some of the friendliest I've ever encountered.

Was lucky enough to attend the play I Hear You & Rejoice last Friday in the lovely Pavilion theatre Dun Laoighre. It was a sell out performance & was well deserved to be. Classic drama!! This is a intimate theatre with friendly & efficient staff. We could enjoy a pre theatre drink outside as the sun shone brilliantly. We really enjoyed the play and hope we will visit here again. What a great place to start our holidays.

Over fifty of us attended a performance of Atlantic Notes which is running very Tuesday night. We received excellent treatment from Róisín and her team. Everything we asked for was provided and the venue is really suitable for wheelchair users. We travel all over the country and this show rates as one of the best we have ever seen. Our members raved about it. The concept was simple but so professionally presented and all of the cast were superb. We had some people with us who had very seldom if ever been to the west of Ireland and we can assure you they are now determined to explore all the beautiful places they saw that night. Absolutely brilliant night. Could not say enough. Do not miss this show.

One of Ireland’s oldest cinemas, the Regal Cinema in Youghal reopened its doors in summer 2018 following a year-long renovation. The refurbished cinema has 2 screens showing the latest Hollywood movies and old classics on state-of-the-art 4K digital technology. The stunning cinema also has a luxury mezzanine level in screen one, a multi-purpose space for events and, for a truly unique experience, cinema goers and walk-in guests alike can enjoy a glass of wine in the new Regal Wine Bar & Café. Built in 1936, many of the cinemas original architectural features have been meticulously restored and some eye-catching, art deco style touches added throughout making this a wonderfully nostalgic cinema experience.
I just absolutely LOVE everything about this cinema! The decor, the staff, the older movies they play its all amazing.. I am always recommending this cinema to people. I travel 25 mins to get here and it is so worth it! My sisters and I went to all the Harry Potter movies when they showed them in Sept and Oct. We looked forward to them every Monday and have to say we were disappointed when they finished. I love sitting in the balcony and bringing in a glass of wine or a hot chocolate it is such a treat. The staff are all so friendly and helpful they couldn't be nicer. I could honestly keep going on about this wonderful place but don't take my word for it go see for yourself you will not be disappointed!

The Abbey Theatre's founders W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory had the vision to 'bring upon the stage the deeper thoughts and emotions of Ireland'. Our ambitious artistic programme of classic Irish drama and new Irish writing holds a mirror up to Irish society. Over the years, the Abbey has nurtured and premiered the work of major Irish playwrights such as Marina Carr, Frank McGuinness, Tom Murphy and a new generation of writers such as Richard Dormer, Stacey Gregg, Nancy Harris and Elaine Murphy. We also nurture a new generation of Irish artists through our artistic development programmes and commitment to discovering new acting, writing and directing talent.
Just before we left for Dublin, I decided to try & book an evening out at the theatre !! Both myself & son had the most memorable & incredible evening at the Abbey Theatre on Wednesday, 3rd December ???? The theatre itself is impressive from the outside but once inside you see it’s beautiful charm & ambience! All the staff we encountered were so very lovely, we collected our pre-paid tickets swiftly from the Box Office just inside the foyer & pre-ordered drinks for the interval - all effortless ! The evening was incredibly led by incredible actors, great characters & set with a fabulous evening of entertainment ! We had such a fabulous evening here x We both nominated our evening at Abbey Theatre the highlight of our trip to this fine city of Dublin !x Thank you x Coming back in February - the theatre booking is at the top of our itinerary! A ‘must see’ whilst in Dublin !x
