Chelyabinsk (Russian: Челя́бинск, IPA: [tɕɪˈlʲæbʲɪnsk] ( listen)) is a city and the administrative center of Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia, located in the northeast of the oblast, 210 kilometers (130 mi) south of Yekaterinburg, just to the east of the Ural Mountains, on the Miass River, on the border of Europe and Asia. Population: 1,130,132 (2010 Census); 1,077,174 (2002 Census); 1,141,777 (1989 Census).

The Chelyabinsk Contemporary Dance Theater was established in 1992 with the support of the city administration. Creator of the theater - Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation Pona Vladimir Romanovich. The artistic director of the theater is Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Pona Olga Nikolaevna. Over the years, the theater has created an extensive repertoire, and most importantly, the unique creative face of the theater, its dance language, its plastic style, which cannot be confused with anything. Many times the theater was nominated for the National Theater Award “Golden Mask” and twice became its owner with performances of “Sketches from Life”, “Waiting”. In 2019, the play “Cardboard” was nominated for the National Theater Award “Golden Mask” in four nominations . The administration of Chelyabinsk, the Department of Culture in the autumn of 2018 provided the theater with a wonderful platform for the rehearsal base and administrative and economic activities.
