Northern Ireland's only alternative comedy night. Based in LOFT Studios in Belfast's North Street, Voicebox makes a name for itself as an "alternative" comedy night within the local Belfast amateur scene. Built on a strong foundation of traditional stand up comedy, it features less "mainstream" humour, and more of the lesser-used mediums such as surrealism, sketches, character skits, short films, songs and comedy lectures. "...the sheer level of invention thrown up by each Voicebox event is truly inspiring, as is each contributor's bravery and commitment to moving on to something new each time." - Culture Northern Ireland

The Bright Umbrella Drama Co present classical and modern theatre, comedy, East Belfast culture and new writing. A visit to their 'Little Theatre', a 60 seat intimate auditorium is not to be missed! Pre, post and interval refreshments at 'Ellen Mary's Parlour'. Good bus and rail links, walking distance from the Belfast City centre. Shows end around 22.00.
A fantastic evening of entertainment. Brilliant cast and excellent direction in a quirky space full of atmosphere. The audience was in stitches throughout. Lively, funny, fast paced and poignant too. A perfect mix for Christmas. Thoroughly recommended. The venue too is a gem - eccentric, friendly and unforgettable. Where else will you be offered a cuppa from a china tea pot in the interval and a slice of Christmas log?.

The Grand Opera House in Belfast is Northern Ireland's premier theatre, presenting a range of drama, dance, opera, comedy, musicals, pantomime, family and West End shows. Established in 1895, the theatre boasts the majestic Victorian main auditorium designed by renowned architect Frank Matcham. My wife and I attended a screening of Singalong-a-Bohemian Rhapsody and had a marvelous time. Very well organised, drinks in the auditorium and drinks at the interval, all excellently done in a beautiful setting.

The Ulster Hall is one of Belfast's most iconic venues. Sitting right at the heart of the city's vibrant entertainment scene, the venue has it all - laugh til you cry comedy, monumental gigs and family shows to warm the cockles.
Went here to see Bombay Bicycle Club on Feb 12 and had an amazing time! Plenty of staff (although we were given the wrong kind of wristband by the first staff member we encountered, which has to be changed!), and we were escorted to our balcony seats more like at a play than an indie gig! The balcony seats are really well designed as they're angled towards the stage, and there is plenty of legroom and a generous size between each chair too. The building itself is very beautiful and clean, the acoustics were great, and there was some interesting history to read about in the entrance hall. Only downsides were the refreshment prices (£3 for a standard bottle of water), and the lack on exits so that the hallways and stair cases are rammed when everyone tries to leave simultaneously. You dread to think what would happen if there were a fire. All in all a very comfortable and well-run venue which allows you to enjoy your show to the fullest. Would definitely return!

The Black Box is a multi-purpose arts venue in the heart of Belfast's bustling Cathedral Quarter. With art, music, literature, film, comedy, cabaret and all points in between! The Green room hosts free events Wed to Sat and sells pizzas and drinks.
I hadn't been for a while but enjoyed 2 fantastic jazz gigs there on Sunday. Whether it is the GreenRoom or the BlackBox I always find the bar staff accommodating, friendly and very helpful. This is a lovely, relaxing venue where the staff go out of the way to welcome everyone. Dime Notes from London were great by the way.
