Jaime and Angela are very welcoming and made the trip to Quito and middle of the world very interesting. Quito was on lockdown during our stay but they were above and beyond and checked if the attractions were open and made sure that we see a glimpse of Quito in one full day. We visited churches, walked around old town Quito, visited a cacao artisanal, learned a lot from middle of the world museum and drove us to a laboratory to get our covid19 antigen test needed to fly back home. I highly recommend them and will definitely book the other tours they offer when I come back to Ecuador in the future. Thank you Jamie and Angela for an excellent and very informative tour today!

I was lucky enough to have Andres for multiple days and I could not be happier! We had an amazing time in Ecuador and most of that is because Andres was so great! Andres showed us through so much of Ecuador, he is very knowledgable, patient, and very accommodating to whatever we needed or wanted to do. He got us through Quito, Otavalo and even out to the jungle. Even after his job was finished, he still stayed in contact to make sure we knew good places to go, places to eat and gave great directions.

My group of 6 friends did this tour (booked on Viator) yesterday. Overall we liked the tour guide Jose, he had a good personality. But due to value, food chosen, and hiccups made by him, we would not recommend this tour. First issue is the driver came to our hotel looking for another couple. He left when the hotel reception told him “Brinn” isn’t staying at the hotel. Apparently, Brinn is another couple who booked this tour but were staying at another hotel. By the time they figured out the mistake, we started the tour 45 minutes late. Instead of being cognizant of this, Jose started the tour with a 45 minute, long winded conversation about the center of the world. This tour is called “Street Food with Drinks.” This is an exaggeration- we had “drink” (singular) and no street food. We went to a bar and had a local cocktail (very tasty). Went to a hole in the wall and had a tamale, chicken gizzards and an empanada. Finally, went to a cafe and had an herbal tea. Overall, it was about $60 worth of food for our group and it $462 ($77 a person). And the food was forgettable. Maybe the pandemic has made the street food tour less than ideal. It is a fact that many places have shut down since last year. But perhaps the tour should be put on hold until the situation in Quito improves.

I scheduled this tour for the second day of our trip to Ecuador. At the agreed upon time our guide picked us up at our hostel. I was initially surprised to see a passenger car with only one person driving and didn’t realize I booked a private tour. As it turned out, it was a wonderful trip with our guide, Jose Louis. It took about 2 hours to travel to the Otavalo market. On the way we stopped at a restaurant for some coffee and breakfast snacks and then at the site of the “equator” in a small town. Jose Louis engaged us with his conservation about Ecuador politics, history, geography, and culture. He was knowledgeable about the different foods, agricultural products, and people. We also learned about Jose Louis’s life, which added a personal touch to the trip. At the market Jose Louis initially walked around with us and then gave us time to explore ourselves. We took this trip on a Saturday so the market was much larger than the weekday market. The market is a good place to find Ecuadorian handicrafts including hats, blankets, jewelry, painted pictures and bowels. There was also lots of interesting foods to sample. For the reminder of our trip in Ecuador we didn’t find too many other opportunities to purchase Ecuadorian handicrafts. Jose Louis also took us to a near by market used by the locals to buy all types of fruits and vegetables. Jose Louis identified the different and unique produce. After the markets we ventured to the Cotacachi volcano area, stopping for lunch on the way at a very nice restaurant. The Cotacachi volcano has a collapsed carter that now forms a spectacular lake. We took a short walk along the carter edge. Jose Louis offered a longer hike but we were still adjusting to the altitude. So, it was back to Quito along a different route where we saw some of the many green houses growing roses, an Ecuadorian export. Jose Louis was an excellent guide, who offered us a personal perspective of Ecuador and detailed and interesting background information about the country.
