10 City Tours in Tangier That You Shouldn't Miss

December 17, 2021 Claudia Navarrete

Located on the Strait of Gibraltar where Africa meets Europe, Tangier has long held strategic importance. Ruled through the centuries by waves of conquerors including Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Arabs and Portuguese, the city is more than two and a half millennia old, making it one of North Africa's most ancient. The medina, kasbah, bazaars and souks are among the country's most vibrant, and the beaches are excellent. In the last century, Tangier became a hot spot for the international jet set.

I just got back from a 2 night stay in Morocco and Hamid was my guide. I can honestly say he was by far the best tour guide I’ve ever hired, and I have used many in the last few years. As a solo female traveler, I felt completely safe and comfortable with Hamid and his driver. He is extremely friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. He took me on a day tour to the beautiful blue city of Chefchouen, which is perhaps the most incredible city I’ve been to. He also gave me a tour of Tangier, the medina as well as the surrounding areas. As an unexpected surprise I also got a camel ride! Again, look no further for a guide in Morocco, Hamid is exceptional!

The tour was booked seamlessly with Anass, who immediately emailed the confirmation and gave us the contact details of the driver. Karim picked us up on time and was a very safe driver. He made a stop for a panoramic view near Tetouan & took pictures of us too. At Chefchaouen, Omar showed us all the interesting spots and his knowledge of the history of the place is excellent! He was very sincere and made sure we had a very enjoyable time, patiently waiting till we get all the pictures we wanted! I loved every minute of it! I highly recommend booking this trip!! I would definitely come to book with them again next time we make a trip, as Omar mentioned more interesting places in Chefchaouen to see!

On a recent trip to Morocco we were given an opportunity to have an extra day of leisure in Casablanca. With some research we soon realized that we would be seeing all of the top attractions in Casablanca during our tour so we started to research the day trips available from Casablanca. This day trip to Tangier drew our attention because it was one place not included in our tour but we were unsure of the tour because it had no reviews. We decided to take a chance and we were very pleased. In fact, this day trip was one of the highlights of our trip. We were met at the Tangier train station by our local guide Bilal who was excellent. Bilal and the driver took the three of us on a fantastic tour of Tangier which included the Tangier Medina, the Hercules Cave and much more. We had a delicious lunch in a small family run local restaurant which was not included but was reasonably priced. We even had a chance to take a ride along the beach on some dromedaries (one humped camels). The high speed (298 km/hr) train ride from Casablanca to Tangier which is include is two hours each way allowing a chance to see the landscaping along the coast of Morocco. Just make sure you receive your train tickets prior to your tour. All in all an excellent day. I would recommend.

I don't even know where to start describing that day. Yes, it was a full day experience. Not the 3.5h listed in the description. Khalid met us at our hotel, and right there on the spot, we knew we made the right choice with this tour. I wish I had much more space here to describe our day. He took us all over town, some places where we would not go by ourselves, and some places where we would barely fit ;). He had many great discussions about culture, food, religion and the country as a whole. He arranged for us to have lunch at his parents house. Despite his family not being too well off, we felt very welcomed and had a nice family time. Sure it included all the commercial spots where you are "expected" to buy things, and buy things we did :), but we really enjoyed everything we bought and every moment and memory we made and got to take away with us. Khalid also arranged for us to get to the bus station to get tix to our next destination and for the transportation to pick us up and get to the bus station in the morning. This day spent with Khalid touring Fez was truly one of the highlights of our Moroccan vacation.

Our guide Fued (I hope that’s how you spell it) was personal, interesting, accommodating, and knowledgeable. We had a driver pick us up from the port in a lovely van, and we got to see neighborhoods and several historical sites. After a delicious Moroccan lunch we walked the streets to see Tangier up close and personal. We were taken to a rug store where we did end up buying rugs but be clear if this is something you do not want. I recommend this tour!
