We visited here after already paying to enter the Silk Museum so missed out on the free entry that the regular 7 euro ticket here grants you. A very informative audio guide provided with the entrance fee that explains the plethora of detailed paintings and murals that cover every surface.

Valencia Cathedral

Reviewed By MurrayBhoy - West Kilbride, United Kingdom

Sitting in between the two main Plazas of De La Virgen and De La Reina, this Cathedral dominates both squares its impressive Gothic architecture all around and its Migulete Tower which reaches high above the city centre itself. Inside, the Cathedral presents a treasure trove of side chapels, architecture, Goya paintings and a museum with an array of historical religious artifacts which includes a trip into tiny rooms where some archaeological digs have been preserved. Of course, its main treasure is the "Holy Grail" housed in a small chapel in the side where you can sit and gaze and take it in hushed respectful silence. Whether you believe it is the true Holy Grail or not, it is of great historical importance anyway, and a must see when in Valencia. I have been to the Cathedral de Santa Maria (Royal Cathedral in Madrid) and it does not come close to this one. We paid 8 Euro each to enter, and a further 2 Euro for myself to go up the Tower....some might complain about having to pay....but it is worth every penny and more to witness and amaze at such well preserved history.

Iglesia del Patriarca o del Corpus Christi

The Royal College Seminary of Corpus Christi, known as the Patriarch, is an institution founded in 1583 which had as its main mission to train priests according to the spirit and provisions of the Council of Trent, as stated the founder himself in San Juan de Ribera their constitutions, becoming the paradigm of the Counter-Reformation in Valencia. It was declared a National Monument in 1962. In addition to the relevance of their church decorated with fresco paintings by Matarana or its cloister, one of the best examples of Renaissance architecture with columns made of Carrara marble, among the works of art-historical importance that are preserved in our Museum highlights paintings by Caravaggio, El Greco, Van Der Weyden, Benlliure or Pinazo Ribalta and others, as well as the original manuscript of the posthumous work of Sir Thomas More, martyr British chancellor of the church, written during his imprisonment in the Tower London before his execution that took place on July 6, 1535. This valuable manuscript, called 'Instructions and Prayers' or 'Tristia Christi (The Agony of Christ)', which can be considered a true spiritual testament, was saved by his daughter Margaret, who did reach Spain with the help of Emperor Charles V.

Basilica de Santa Maria

A visit to Basilica de Santa Maria is a must if your in Elche... The bell tower is just amazing!!!! The €2 administration fee is a bargain. The 270 or so spiral staircase is not for everyone, it gets quite narrow at the very top and if your claustrophobic maybe not for you... But all that said if you can give it a go.. On each level on the way up that have set out how it would have been in the past. The hole experience on the way up is very informative and fun.. and the views from the top “BREATHTAKING” May just be helpful to ask at the bottom how many people are already up the tower as passing people on the stairs can be a bit challenging...

Santa Maria la Mayor Basilic Church

Reviewed By NSKGG - County Dublin, Ireland

This must be the centerpiece of this beautiful walled city and I'm not sure why it's not given more prominence in the tourist literature for those visiting Valencia. Forget the museum and spend time enjoying the magnificence of this Gothic masterpiece, the ornate altar and rose windows, the majestic pipe organ and the intricate spiral staircase.
