10 Caverns & Caves in Austria That You Shouldn't Miss

May 9, 2022 Renato Branum

As home to majestic mountains, opulent palaces, and high culture, Austria's attractions are classically sumptuous and enduring. But beyond the waltzes, the strudels, the alpine summits, and Habsburg architecture, its modern cities are proof of just how easily Austria combines the contemporary with the historic.

We visited this attraction in September 2019. Breath-taking. Definitely no photos to help preserve the ice. Fitness level required to hike up to the cave entrance plus climb stairs inside the cave (700!), Postcards available in the gift shop to help you bring home photos to show your friends. Dress warmly, you ARE in a cave full of ice.

It was definitely worth climbing the 300+ stairs. A truly unique experience. The views, the sound of the running water, the stairs - all made for a special kind of trip.

We visited Kitzlokchkramm on a sunny morning in August. The service was quick at the ticket desk and admittance was only 6 euros. The gorge was well signposted and there was information at the beginning of the path. Was quite hot in places but generally uncrowded. It was fascinating watching climbers on the via ferrata. Would go again.
