Ludlow Castle is an unusually complete range of medieval buildings with a varied history evident within its walls. We are host to a number of events that run between April and November, information of which is available at the local tourist information centre and on our website. Castle House was one of the last grand mansions built in Ludlow. It was sympathetically restored in 2006 by the current Earl of Powis and provides a range of Independent shops, Tea Rooms with an idyllic outside terrace during the summer months; function rooms that are available for civil ceremonies, weddings, parties, wakes, meetings The 3 no. self catering apartments are available for 3, 4 and 7 night stays. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, well equipped kitchens and sitting/dining rooms and views of the castle that are unparalleled. The Tea Room is a traditional English tea room with a glazed Courtyard, Pantry, Study and Garden Terrace. It is child and dog friendly with a welcoming and enthusiastic team, serving something for everyone. There are loose-leaf teas, cafeteria coffees, fresh juices and quality wines. A range of freshly prepared cakes and cream teas are available all day. There is a lovely walk around the outside of the castle where you are surrounded by natural woodland and outstanding views of the castle walls, River Teme and Whitcliffe Common.
This ancient fortress can be found at the end of the town square, it is a well preserved structure & a great place to explore, they have a very nice cafe & a lovely gift shop, well worth a visit

To begin with, may I say that we enjoyed our visit to these very visually impressive ruins. I was somewhat interested in the behaviour of our Bull Mastiff, she can be a bit nervous at times, but normally very laid back, she seemed ok walking on her harness lead around the ruins. But as we passed the stairs leading down to the small underground chamber in the Manor House part she reacted quite noticeably, squeezing herself against the opposite wall in what seemed to be an attempt to get as far away as possible from the opening, once past she reverted to normal behaviour. However on walking back she did exactly the same thing, this time hard enough to scratch the plastic buckle on her harness. We went down the steps to find that the chamber was very small, no light in there, and doesn't appear on the English Heritage download map, so not at all sure what it actually was used for. We didn't hear, feel or see anything unusual, but the dog's strange behaviour still seems very odd. Church was also worth a visit, coloured tombs celebrating the family from the Castle, no eerie feelings in there, but the dog was now in the car outside, so couldn't say what her reaction would be. No previous reading about 'hauntings' as visit was spontaneous, whilst we were on holiday. Small free site, well a visit if you're in that area.

Do not follow Google Maps as it’s on the left way before maps tells you where it isn’t. When you see it then just keep a look out for a road and follow your nose. It’s really nice ruins but only small and a very quick visit. Some history and information to read and the views are amazing of nearby area. Worth going if nearby but if you love castles go to Ludlow. This place is free

Visited the kitchen@thecastle yesterday and sampled the new delicious menu created by the new chef - and will certainly be coming back. Sampled a Green Goddess which is a vegetarian dish; there are others on the menu. Everything felt very safe at the kitchen and it was full of customers. Car parking is now £2 as it’s a charity which has to fund itself. This is a great time to visit the Castle as the Autumn colours are fantastic.

We visited this place early in the morning when there weren't too many people around. The setting is so tranquil and the ruins beautiful. A great place to picnic if you have the place to yourself as it is so quiet. However, it isn't usually long before the families with kids arrive!!......................

I cannot say enough that this place is amazing! Babbling brook, picnic table, amazing clean and modern toilet facilities and a 13th century castle ruin to explore. Not for those with limited mobility I had to wait at the foot of the hill as it was too steep to climb the wooden bridge was enough of a challenge for someone with limited mobility. Information boards to help explain the castle's renovation and history. We did this as a stop off and a pit stop so amazed that we chose to detour to this point.

Found it by accident and thought it was beautiful. The views for the tower are definitely worth it. It is hidden a little, you have to walk up the stairs behind trees.

I previously reviewed the norman castle, but I was even more impressed by the adjacent 12th century St Bartholomew's Church. A detached bell tower is at the east end of the church, this may have originally have been part of the castle's defenses. The church is now administered by the Churhes Conservation Trust. The nave is filled with very fine georgian box pews. The north transept contains a large seventeenth century canopied pew used by the Salwey family (Lords of the Manor) - where it is, the Salwey's wouldn't have been able to see the alter . The church contains magnificent stained glass wndows and a number of memorials.
