The viewing platform, which is brilliantly designed to 'hang over' the excavated area, makes it so much easier and more comfortable (no sun on one's head) for visitors to walk around and study the ruins of the Palace from above. There are signs with explanations about each different room. From the higher vantage point, one can also appreciate Nestor's brilliant choice of location for his Palace. He had a view all the way towards the sea and the various bays. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit

Methoni Castle is very big with interesting history. The archeologists have a lot of work to do. The views from the walls and towers are amazing. If you visit in summer - bring water.

Very nice place with lots of tourist shops and nice places to rest for a drink. Very nice old castle / monastery.

A must when you visit Pylos. Breathtaking views, an archaeological museum, two buildings with exhibits belonging to the museum of underwater archaeology, a mosque as well as the castle itself with its fortified walls.

The castle is partly just interesting for its own sake, but it also has three separate small but interesting museums inside, including the archaeological museum (note that the material from the Palace of Nestor is in Chora, a nearby town that is closer to the palace than modern Pylos is). Highlights include a Linear B tablet from Iklaina with an associated holographic display and the Roman glass from some nearby tombs. There are also a couple of little museums of underwater archaeology, since this is one of the main outposts of that ephoreia.

The fortified complex of Troupakis-Mourtzinos is well worth visiting. Well layer out and informative exhibits give a good picture of what life was like for the inhabitants over the centuries.
