This 15th-century castle is the subject of numerous historical myths, including that of a ghost who still makes appearances at the castle.
Had a beautiful day trip here to visit this castle. Stunning location and a beautiful park. All the staff and our tour guide were very friendly and full of information about the history etc. Definitely a beautiful place to visit and a must see if you love your castles ????

Another of the many castles in Ireland sadly damaged by he English. In the centre of town next to the town square.

Can't imagine folks let the fence deter them from exploring the castle. We walked right up to it, climbed around, and even explored what appears to have been a dungeon. Slippery and dark steps! It was one of the coolest ruins we visited among many. Fragile, yes, and some young men took unnecessary risks climbing up on top! They got reamed out by one of the locals. ;) All in all, well worth a visit. Just wish I had known that the Cahergall Stone Fort was a mere stone's throw away. Puh.

Fairly easy to find right off the main road. There is parking along the road and there is rarely anyone else there. We did run into a German film crew who didn't want us there one time, but we ignored them. Watch your step on the rocks, as you can see they are prolific, slippery and wet. Circle all the way around to get nice pictures from all angles. I believe there is a holy well nearby as well.

I hesitate to publicize this gem in Ventry, Ireland, because I consider it my own personal ring fort for exploration and imaginative play. It is uber cool.

This was one of my favorite ruins because it is publicly accessible, and is one of the few castles in Kerry that I was able to find where you are easily able to walk around! If you visit with small children be careful because there aren't any railings.

This is a must see ruin whilst in Kerry, it’s so refreshing not having to pay for entry fee and having the freedom to explore. You can climb to the top but I will warn you if you’re scared of heights it’s not for you, However the view at the top is so worth it. We witnessed a birds nest with birds during our exploration and even an ancient toilet! Worth a stop off! Please see the attached photos.
The majestic ruins of a 13th-century castle and friary.
