Fantastic Stay at Desert Nights Camp

Reviewed By Monty S

During our Oman trip we spent two nights at the Desert Nights Camp. Great location and easy to find. The last 10km are on sand, hence a 4x4 car is required. We booked a two bedroom suite which was perfect for our family. The tents are very comfortable with a well needed a/c as it can get really hot during April. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. Beside the complementary sunset drive and camel ride we also booked a sunrise drive that included dune bashing and sand boarding (absolute must!). We also enjoyed the quad bikes which we did in the late afternoon. The food was served at a large buffet and was excellent. While playing board games at the recreation room we also met the lovely manager and his young daughter on our second night. We highly recommend staying two nights as most visitors only enjoy the sunset drive and camel ride but misses all other activities. We had a great time!

Plants used at Souly Lodge are local as well and don’t require much watering. Yet you will not miss any comfort in our 36 sqm bungalows. Eleven of our 19 Oceanfront bungalows are furnished with king size beds and four others with twin beds. Each room has wardrobes, traditional Arabic seating inside and wooden chairs for terrace. It is seldom that I rate a hotel with six stars. This small lodge is located in a very natural environment directly at a fantastic beach. The whole team is super friendly and supportive. For me, mainly Mazin (Ibrahim), he was our waiter, is a little perl. He is so lovely ... like an angel... any wish is welcome ... he always tries to make it happen. And as well all the food is realy amazing and very delicious ... the cook is cooking perfectly. It was an outstanding stay and we say MAAAAAANY thanks for our relaxing time. Your slogan "Relax ... you are in the nature" is more than true.

Great experience!

We chose Sands Dream Camp for our stay in Wahiba Sands as it seemed the best value and location for what we wanted. We opted for a return transfer which meant we parked our car at Al Wasil (Al Maha petrol station) and liaised with the camp via Whatsapp for pick up and drop off. The cost was 30 RO (note: this is per car). The drive to camp took 20-25 minutes from the petrol station and included dune bashing and a drive to the top of a dune for sunset at 4:30pm. We loved this and would highly recommend it! It could also potentially save you from getting lost/stuck in the sand if you drive yourself to camp. Plus, dune bashing and sunset drive alone costs 25RO so including a return transfer for an extra 5RO seemed worth it. We arrived in camp and were welcomed with dates, tea, coffee and water. Our bags were taken from the car to our tent by one of the staff. The two staff members in camp were very really helpful and friendly. The tent itself was quite basic with two beds, two chairs and a small table. The bathroom was external; there was a toilet, a sink and an open shower (no hot water). Towels were provided. Neither of us had a full shower as we left it until too late in the day when it got a little colder, and a cold shower was not appealing. For one night, it was fine (taking a shower earlier on in the day when it’s hot may be a better strategy). All in all, if you’re expecting luxury accommodation, you will be disappointed. But you’re in the middle of a desert, there’s no harm in roughing it up a little and enjoying the experience! Food was half board (dinner and breakfast) and it was great! Dinner included rice, meat curry, kebabs, bbq chicken, okra, humous, tabouleh, salad, naan and dessert included fruit, custard and baklava. Breakfast included french toast, mixed fruit pieces, boiled eggs, muffins and croissants. We were also offered omelettes which would’ve been freshly cooked. You won’t go hungry! Tea, coffee, water and dates are provided 24/7. Activities can be booked at the camp. So at camp dinner, we booked 30 mins quad biking for the next morning (cost 12 RO per person). Again, highly recommended - it was so much fun! Extra info: All payments were in cash. Electricity was available 24/7 and included lights in tent and bathroom, and plug sockets. You will have to arrange transfer beforehand but any activities you’d like to book can be done when you arrive at camp. Tips: - Take flip flops. It may be annoying if you’re constantly getting sand in closed shoes. - Nights can get quite cool (depending on the time of year you visit - we visited in December where it got to about 16°C) so take something warm to wear. - A torch may come in handy for when it gets dark. We had a head torch. - Try and arrange accommodation directly with the camp (you can use WhatsApp or email) as this will likely give you the best price. For example, we booked via hotels.com and paid 70RO. If we booked directly with the camp we were being quoted 45RO. Quite a difference; this is my personal experience and may differ for you. I hope you’ve found this review helpful! Enjoy.

A "true" desert experience where you feel the power and the loneliness of nature. Rashid, Ahmed and the others are fantastic and they make you feel comfortable. We stayed there with two babies (6 and 1) and we had a special time. The dinner was very good, as well the breakfast. The room was ok, and we had no cold during the night. You'll find also en plain air (no roof, walls only) fantastic showers, that with the clear desert sky look pretty awesome.

looking for a special place for a relaxed, down to earth with a certain touch of luxury and modern amneties night in the desert, we luckily found canvas club luxury camping. far away of mass tourism or artificial luxury packages, malik and ali and his team have made our stay an incredible experience. we spent christmas eve at the camp and enjoyed every minute. from the pick up location where they solved quickly our selfmade problem of not bringing a car that was fit for the desert we drove 45min into the desert where we changed the 4x4 with camels back to reach the camp further into the desert. with no other camp in sight the comfy living tent and an incredible sleeping tent seemingly straight out of 1001 night were our little oasis for our stay. ali and his team made us a delicious homecooked dinner and were always very attentive, funny and friendly, without ever intruding our privacy. their attention to detail was incredible, everything was super clean and we felt very comfortable and safe during the whole stay. stargazing on loungebeds with a campfire and the newest ipad to solve the mysteries of the nightsky we woke up in the morning to the smell of yummi omelettes cooked on a little oven the next morning. we can recommend canvas club without hesitation if you look for an incredible desert experience with impeccable attention to detail, great service and an incredible team looking after you during your stay! thank you canvas club & ali for this exceptional memory. lea & flo from switzerland

The Oman Desert Private Camp is very well located (away from the city lights for stargazing, but it doesn’t require too much time to be reached), the tents are beautiful and very clean, the meals were excellent and the staff very nice! We did dune bashing and watched the sunset on a dune. It was great fun! And we ended the day by watching the stars around a fire. We really had a wonderful time! We definitely recommend this place! A big thanks to Ali, the general manager, for making us living such great moments!

It is basic , you get what you pay for .but the staff could not have been more helpful for the 10 of us. Includes 3 children. Our 4x4 ride across the desert was in the words of my granddaughter the best “ I never want this to end this is the best “ It was scary. The food was good and endless tea and coffee available. We had a fire in the evening, taking our own marshmallows to sit and watch the stars. Perfect. If you like 5* hotels don’t come .but the trip is absolutely worth it
