10 Campgrounds in New Jersey: Best hotel deals for 2023

April 19, 2023 Nicolette Lion

Whether you are looking for sun-drenched beaches or outdoor activities in beautiful countryside, New Jersey has plenty to offer. Those who love the great outdoors should head for the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, which runs along the Delaware River for forty miles. Here you can go rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking or fishing, or simply admire the stunning waterfalls. There is a huge range of hiking trails to choose from as well as historic sites to visit. In winter, you can enjoy cross-country skiing near Blue Mountain Lakes, and birdwatchers might be lucky enough to catch sight of bald eagles. If you are looking for a change, visit one of New Jersey's eleven lighthouses that are open to public, such as the one in Cape May. For art and history enthusiasts, New Jersey State Museum in Trenton has historic artifacts and American fine art from the nineteenth century to the present day as well as a Planetarium.

My experience showed safety hazards (including playground equipment) are ignored until they become so obvious complaints are constant or someone gets hurt. Corporate owners expect GM to work 'round the clock and that is not an exaggeration because I lived it. A 45-hour a week job as general manager of a campground quickly became a 115-hour per week job, consistently. As a manager of a campground with over 600 campsites, in-fighting between campers was rampant as was underage drinking on-site. As a field manager, I was expected to handle every issue 24/7 with with some weeks working over 128 hours- plus I worked 30 days without one single day off. Upper management typically shuts their cell off at 5:00, so calls for support go to VM and messages left on Friday are not returned until Monday- even if there is an emergency over the weekend such as septic backups, or transformers blowing and power being out. Emails asking for support are consistently ignored. I was regularly directed to issue fines to campers who violated rules only to have upper management over-rule their own directive and put their managers in compromising positions with guests they interact with daily. Managers are expected to sink or swim and outreach to corporate brings harsh repercussions to employees in the field. I used my own money for company expenses and a year later am still waiting for reimbursement! My age was mocked by staff. When I pleaded for some help, any help at all after being kept up 3 nights in a row without any sleep, and requested a day off after working a full month straight- I was fired. Don't let my negative experience become yours.

Loved Our Experience, Purchased a Park Model!

Reviewed By beckrich1712

We absolutely loved our 5 night stay in a deluxe cabin at the property. The beach at Strathmere has free parking and was maybe 7 minutes by car with no beach tags. We did a variety of things at the campground from the live musicians, magic shows, and rode the train/tram around the resort. We have friends that have lived on property for many years in the summers and we felt that the time spent with our children was something we just don't get in Pennsylvania over the summer. We played games and cards and night, put the kids to bed and enjoyed a few adult beverages. We've been talking for years and saving for a beach condo for years but, decided that we could buy here for less (yes I know, can only use May - Mid-October) but, some of the condo's we've looked at had HOA fees that were maybe slightly less but, then had property taxes on top of it all. We're going to enjoy our new park model when it hopefully arrives next year for years to come. I don't have any ideas for improvement other than activities every night of the week, I think Tuesday/Wednesday was activity-less other than adult swim. Everything was clean. I can't quite say I understand the comments on the sand lots, your 2 miles or 3 at most from the beach in a straight shot. What do you expect the surface to be? I also don't understand the seasonal hate, there are some areas where I would agree, the place could use some HOA esque rules, we avoided picking several lots based on the 'junk' in their back yards but, this was certainly the exception, not the rule. My wife enjoyed walking around and seeing how people creatively decorated their front yards, some people had really cool layouts. People were really friendly and my daughter made friends everywhere she went. I can't think of any facility improvements, and I appreciated the gated community, keep out the folks who would choose to slam 20 folks on a site and party all night long. I'm not crazy about not being able to leave my parents alone in my park model if I wish for a weekend as a registered and paid guest but, all the more time for me to stay there and give them the boot when we want them out. More to stay next summer! BTW - Kristi's craft looked amazing, I wish we were still there this week!
