The Carter-Ryan Gallery is home to the work of Indigenous Visual Artist, Jason Carter. His bright paintings and bold soapstone sculpture have been featured at Canmore's Main Street location since 2012. Last year, a second location opened in Banff. Visit either location to experience one of Alberta's most acclaimed visual artists. Gallery by day and at night, the Carter-Ryan Gallery in Canmore comes alive with live musical theatre all summer long. Comedy, musical theatre and history coming to life...it's all here surrounded by original art. A truly memorable destination.
I recently saw Canada the Musical with some friends. The gallery hosts an intimate theatre surrounded by the colourful and beautiful artwork of Jason Carter. Canada The Musical is super fun, engaging, and brings back many great memories. I would highly recommend going, and I look forward to attending more performances.

Right in the heart of historic Quebec City, this magnificent theatre has hosted nearly a century's worth of the greatest in arts and entertainment. Once used mostly for cultural events, it has evolved into much more than a concert hall. Since its reopening in 1992, this prestigious and storied hall amazes both its renowned performers and their audience. Le Théâtre Capitole is a unique and magical place. Majestic stairway, gilded trim, luxurious railings, it is filled with memories of a bygone era.

Fringe Theatre is for YOU because fringing is for everyone! It’s an experience that captivates and cultivates. It brings artists and audiences together to celebrate creativity, risk, craft, and community. Together, we are transforming theatre, fostering artists, and taking chances – all year long!
I have been going to the fringe festival every year for the past 10 years. Most people like me who live in Edmonton can say the same thing, however, I actually go to watch the theatre. Many people will say they have been to the fringe but you can’t say that with out going to live theatre. It’s shocking the amount of great talent people miss out on every year. You can find street performers anywhere at anytime, when will you see so many world class live shows. Again if you don’t see any shows you can’t say you have ever been to the fringe.

Looking for a memorable night out? A distinguished soiree, a suave atmosphere out with friends or with that special someone? A venue as unique as they come, with a character somewhere between New York cabaret and Parisian dinner-theater, Le Balcon offers an exclusive dining and entertainment experience in the heart of le Quartier des Spectacles! First, enjoy the distinct fusion cuisine inspired by the flavors of the world that will entice the most refined pallets. Then extend your "Balconesque'' experience by savouring, up close and live, the wide variety of musical styles and cultures offered by world-class artists. The intimate and festive atmosphere of Le Balcon promises to deliver memorable moments to all patrons.
I was in Montréal for two nights which means I missed an amazing week of shows at Le Balcon! The night before I came to town was a funk and soul night! The night after I left was a salsa band! Their whole calendar was amazing... as a jaded Nashvilllian in "Music City," I love discovering REAL MUSIC!! First thing first, Le Balcon is in a church! I walked up and down the block for half an hour looking for this place. Oh, yes, I did see the church. I walked past it 20 times, I walked to the back of it, down each side of it... I was in the bushes and the trees in the garden; I rooted around the dumpster and in the buildings next door. What I didn't see was the giant flashing sign that read "LE BALCON" and the huge pink spotlight on the door announcing the show! See, I'm from the American South where a church is a church. So I never thought the venue was in the damn church!! SO, if you're like me and miss the giant flashing side and huge pink spotlight, just remember it is IN THE CHURCH!!! Oh, but what a great venue! An old church built over 100 years ago before amps and microphones... when acoustics mattered and music was sacred. I was charmed as soon as I entered. The show was "Misunderstood: A Nina Simone Celebration" by Nadia Theobal and her amazing band. The music was incredible and a great example of the quality this venue either cultivates... or attracts... or both. I'm on there website right now and this week's calendar has a tango performance, Cuban music, and a tribute to Aretha Franklin! I would give my left arm to have performances of this caliber and diversity in Nashville! We call ourselves Music City, but this is the true Ville de la Musique with such a venue. I look forward to future trips to Montréal, and each time I will check the calendar and make sure Le Balcon is putting on a show. With any luck, next time I'll catch the Salsa band! But it doesn't matter, the quality is so good that you could guarantee an amazing performance even if you were unfamiliar with the performer or the genre. I really can't say enough great things about this place- the staff was friendly; we were escorted from the entrance to the venue and the wait staff brought us a bottle of wine. I've told everyone who passes through Montréal that this is a must stop... and you should too! I've attached a picture of the giant sign and the pink door so you know what to look for... y'know, in case you have as much trouble as I did finding a giant sign and pink door! Enjoy the show!
