Sosua is everything you want a beach town to be. Clear waters teem with coral, perfect for snorkeling and diving. Above sea level you’ll find multicolored sands lined with beach shacks. This small enclave of the Dominican Republic was once a haven for Jewish refugees. Historic sites and synagogues offer great perspective on Sosua’s postwar identity. On a lighter note, a community of ex-pats helps fuel a boisterous, international nightlife scene.

This bar is cute and affordable. They play the hockey games which appeals to people on vacation that want to watch the game. The drinks are reasonably prices and they care for the stray dogs which is really nice.

Hello All! I recently just stayed in Puerto Plata for 5 days and used DSRR Daily Transportation Service. Winston was excellent Great Service, also LILO was incredible extremely courteous and helpful. The company is fast and efficient and a direct reflection of Rosario the King of the North Coast. He and his daughter Jennifer run a very efficient, hospitable service and truly care for their customers .

This often crowded beach features white sand and turquoise waters.
Sosua is a wonder beach with warm clear water, awesome snorkeling, and plenty of delicious restaurants. I am writing this more of an encouragement for those traveling to this destination or staying at a resort in Sosua to consider bringing items to donate. Although this country is beautiful there are many living below poverty level. We were made aware of a school for displaced children. An orphanage that houses about 30 children. They survive through donations only. There are times during the year when the kids don’t have enough to each. Jolly Rogers restaurant hosts a Christmas party and provides some support through the year. I would encourage those traveling to the area to bring extra clothing, toiletries (toothbrush toothpaste soaps), shoes and expecially nonperishable food items. I’m sure that Jolly Rogers could get these items to the school. If you have any questions or would like more information feel free to message me.

Such a fascinating place. The architecture and art just make for a very unique experience that even people who traditionally don’t appreciate art museums will enjoy.
