An old monastery, reputedly founded under, or by Charlemagne, The main church is a typical example of Romanesque style (12th century). Note the very rare rood screen in the middle of the main nave. Very few rood screens were preserved in Catholic Churches after the 16th century. Then move on the the cloister with one wall covered in frescoes, rather well preserved. A jewel

Distilleria Beccaris was established thanks to a sort of “game of chance”. In fact , in 1951 its founder Elio Beccaris decided to start its own firm but he did not know whether it had to be a distillery, a winery or a vinegar factory. So he made his new born son Carlo decide by putting three slips of paper with the three alternatives in a hat and letting him take one, the ultimate decision should be taken by his innocent and unaware hand and it proved to be the lucky one. Carlo Beccaris now show in his personality the same rare and essential characteristics of seriousness of his firm, handicraft care and passion originating high quality. The production cycle starts at the end of the summer with the selection of the best marcs from the vineyards located in the heart of the region between Langhe and Monferrato. Then come the other phases of production: distillation, ageing, and the packaging of the bottles that every year are put on the market after a carefully controlled process.

Pierfranco and his family are so welcoming and friendly! His wife and son Gabriel explaned a lot about their vinyard and the different types of wine, which we could taste too. Not a question was too much, after a whole afternoon of asking and tasting wine, Gabriel even took us to see their beautiful vinyard. Of course we bought some bottles to share with our friends and family in Belgium!

We did the wine testing in a beautiful place with a very nice view. The owner was a real passionate who shared with us very good quality wines ( bubbles, white, red), with some good Italian apéritivo. It was a very nice moment and we enjoyed everything !

The company is located in Loazzolo, the town that has the smallest DOC of Italy and is also an Oasis affiliated to the WWF. Respect of environment is central to the family Scaglione who lives and preserve this wonderful place for six generations: the cellar in fact works entirely with the' solar energy and the vineyards are conducted in a biological way.
