Park located on the shoreline of Lake Superior encompassing cliffs, dunes, waterfalls and lakes.
To actually see the pictured rocks you must either rent kayaks to get close up and personal, or take the boat tour. The double tiered boat gives you sensational views of the magnificent turquoise, orange, brown, copper, pink colors within the stones sculpted and worn by the seas of Lake Superior. The backdrop of the turquoise water is reminiscent of the pacific ocean and is a sight to behold.

20 miles east from Munising, with the last 5 miles on dirt road. A couple small parts of the road are rough, but we went slow in a compact car and had no problems. We did the long loop to Chapel Falls, Chapel Rock, Chapel Beach, the Lakeshore Trail with stunning overviews of the Pictured Rocks, then the Mosquito Falls trail. My GPS read 11.8 miles, but much of the route is flat. It took us 6.5 hours including a long lunch break and a leisurely pace. There are ways to shorten the loop, but you would miss something very special if you did so. If you have the legs for it, and you are doing the scenic cruise, get the most out of Pictured Rocks National Loop by completing this loop! Trails are marked but in some spots it is tricky to find the trail.

Well maintained. Great service. Awesome golfing and ice cream. One of the best, if not the best, course we have ever played on. Lots of fun and holes like we had never saw before. Mix of challenging and regular holes. No easy hole in ones! It was great.

What a beauty and saving grace! The Superior coast can be a bit overcrowded in August so head inland a bit and find a small rustic campground in Hiawatha. There's no shortage of beautiful lakes to watch the sunrise from. Make friends with your camp hosts and thank them for a clean pit toilet and tidy campground. Then support your National Parks!!

Great biking trail on the 20-mile perimeter of the Upper Peninsula.
Took the first ferry over in the morning, with lots of water and picnic lunch. Hiked around part of Island and through inside paths, enjoying the unspoiled scenery. Trails were well marked, mostly dry and not too difficult for senior adults used to walking daily. Took the almost 4-hour afternoon tour offered by the same company as ferry service - it was GREAT! Harry knew the island's history, wildlife and people. We saw and learned a lot on the bus tour with frequent stops and enough time allowed for all the photographers. Oh, Harry told some wonderful stories that had you amazed at the strength of the island's inhabitants and at other times heartily laughing. I imagine the night stay cabins get booked well in advance, but would look into them if ever in the area again.
