Waterrock Knob

Reviewed By GoVols79 - Chattanooga, United States

Waterrock Knob is part of the Plott Balsams mountain range in western North Carolina. At mile marker 451.2 on the Blue Ridge Parkway there is a great stop with a National Park Service Visitor Center that is open seasonally. It features a large parking lot with great views all around, restrooms and hiking trails. We enjoy hiking so we took the trail to the top but the view isn’t any better from what you see in the parking lot. It is paved for the first half and then turns to a dirt trail. The trail isn’t overly technical but I wouldn’t wear flip flops. It is also pretty steep; especially the paved part. The summit of the trail is 6,273 feet above elevation and is the highest point on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The visitor center is small but has a station for stamping a NPS passport, maps, an assortment of gifts and food and drink. There are also displays about the area and wildlife. We picked up Junior Ranger packets for the kids to complete. Waterrock Knob is a great stop on the Parkway and was one of the highlights of our trip.

Teresa Smith was very helpful to me when I contacted her about needing access to a printer on my vacation to Maggie Valley. She went out of her way to help me find someplace to print my departure plane boarding pass and even offered to meet me at the Chamber, on a day when it was closed, just to print my pass for me. Super service. Maggie Valley has the best people! Thanks, Teresa.

Maggie Valley Rock Shop

In the Heart of Maggie Valley - Don't miss Maggie's own little rock shop. A real gem, pardon the pun, is a great place to find that special treasure you've been looking for. Gem stones, Jewelry or try your hand at gem mining.

I was very surprised at the amount of gems that I got from the gem mine doing the sifting area. they actually stayed open a half an hour later for us just because we were looking around and we weren't running a little late and we didn't realize that they were closing. Very friendly and very knowledgeable staff here I would definitely recommend this if you are definitely into gems and rocks and stones for healing.

I am not a wine connoisseur by any means, but Chris' Pink Moscato wine was the best I have ever had. It was sweet, but not too sweet, and incredibly smooth with not a bit of bitter aftertaste. The dark chocolate kiss palette cleanser was an extra bonus since I am gluten-free. The selection is respectable and the shop is as cute as can be. This is a definite destination if you visit Maggie Valley

Ten thousand square feet of nothing you need.. We are a true destination shop, people come from all over just to visit us.

Our family comes up to Maggie Valley every summer and one of our favorite places to visit is The Cabbage Rose. We’ve always enjoyed browsing and shopping the year round Christmas section, which has such a wonderful and unique selection. I personally have always enjoyed the selection of purses, jewelry and decor they offer. Being in a touristy area, with busier seasons and slower seasons, I feel the shop is reasonably priced considering the area and it’s surrounding shops. It is definitely worth visiting!

They now have live music and each night they have different food truck that comes and parks next to their outside seating where the band plays. Starts around 7 pm and band at 8 pm. Get there early at 7 to get a seat. Dave, the owner, has put together a great lineup of bands, including an Elevated house band with Bluegrass performers who are very talented. We have been a few times, and each time the food was very good.(the BBQ truck was SO good) and the drinks cold and music excellent. Dont miss this when you come to the valley. Their facebook page has their schedule.
