Marytown - The National Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe

Beautiful, Holy Shrine! I went to retreats here when I was younger and they shaped me like no other experience. I am so thankful for the work of the friars and volunteers here. Someone mentioned that it's "boring"- lets be clear, this is a Catholic Church and not an amusement park- but what is "boring" about the Savior of the world being made present in the Eucharist and in Adoration? Please God fill our hearts for love of You and especially the gift of your Holy Presence in the Eucharist!

Enjoyed another delightful hike on the paths of the forest preserve. They are very well maintained. You can hike for different distances but it is always well maintained and beautiful. We enjoyed the wildlife. We felt very safe on the path.

Independence Grove Forest Preserve

Reviewed By illinoistravelere

This extraordinary forest preserve is worth a visit any time of the year. Becuase of this season's heavy snowfalls, not all of the paths had been cleared. You could tell from tracks in the snow that this did not stop visitors with appropriate footwear from striking out across the terrain. During this particular visit, ice skating was forbidden, but ice fishing was going on. I couldn't resist taking photos of groups of fisherpeople scattered across the lake -- some drilling holes as I watched. The thaw is coming. Because this property is so large and has so much parking, it is very easy to social distance during your visit. See earlier reviews for more details (May 9, 2020; July 18, 2017; and September 4, 2016).

Fremont Public Library

Public library to engage the community, inspire creativity, and enrich minds. Between programs, books, DVDs, or even streaming devices, the library has everything anyone could want!

I've come to appreciate this local resource more & more. Beyond the expected collection of older & modern released books, movies, audio CD's, and reference materials, this Library provides some of the best environments to read and relax. Community events are hosted often with scheduled programs available for multiple ages. You should also take the time to view some of the historical displays, such as the Lake County quilt at the top of the staircase. Their hours are in line with other Libraries in the area and the facility is always well kept.

60 to Escape

The rules here are so simple that they're laid out right in the business's name: 60 to Escape. Small groups of friends, family members, or coworkers are locked in a room, where they have only an hour to use problem-solving skills and teamwork to escape. Players can select from a variety of scenarios to challenge themselves with.

We’ve gone twice. The first time we went with all my siblings & their Significant others for a “Sibling game night”. We did the hidden Temple room. It was so much fun. There were 7 of us in the room so we were a little cramped in the beginning when we were trying to get out of the 1st room but then we were able to spread out. It was amazing. Room after room. So much to do and see. We loved it. We were able to make it out of the Hidden temple with 5 mins. Left. Loved it so much we had to go again with our kids. We did the mystery manor with our 3 kids (17,15,&8). They loved it. Because we had an 8 year old we were able to have to room to ourselves and not have to buy all the tickets. We were able to get out of that room too with 8 mins left. I can’t wait to go back and do another one... we really love going and we hope to try them all. They are so well done and so fun!

Long Grove Confectionery Co.

This is an excellent time to visit. First of all, the inventory is HUGE. Because tours have been cancelled for the foreseeable future, the company was able to utilize some of the warehouse space to display even more product. I ended up spending WAY more time shopping than I had expected as I checked shelf after shelf of tempting chocolate. Today I purchased pretzels, caramels, brittle, Meltaways, nuts, molded creations, and more. Since the pre-noon temperature was already 86 degrees with a "real feel" of 97, I divided my car's air conditioning vent directions between driver and floor and put my shopping bags on the floor of the front seat. Everything arrived home in perfect condition. Second, this is a VERY high quality chocolate. There is no longer any sampling in the store -- as at Costco and others. You can't go wrong with either the dark or milk chocolate. Third, the prices are amazing. In addition, right now there is a 90% off sale, which will give you the opportunity to purchase molded Easter shapes for melting. Fourth, all safety precautions are being taken. Masks and social distancing are required inside the store. There are limits to the amount of customers allowed at one time. Charge cards only -- no cash. You will feel safe and protected shopping here. Finally, you will find the same friendly and professional staff -- happy to be back at work and delighted to greet you. See my earlier review (November 3, 2016) for more details.

How anyone can complain about this place is beyond me. You step in the door and you're greeted by Michael Keaton's Batmobile and Pee-Wee Herman's bicycle, as well as a variety of different bicycles and Duesenbergs, from there you're introduced to classics for sale in the primary showroom, movie cars and props, the celebrity collection, and whatever else in on site for your viewing pleasure.
