The State Museum of Prehistory in Halle (Saale) is home of the world-famous Nebra Sky Disc and ranks among the most renowned archaeological museums in Central Europe. It is the oldest purpose-built museum for prehistoric archaeology in Germany. The key aspect of its permanent and special exhibitions is human evolutionary and cultural history, which first became tangible in Central Germany around 450,000 years ago. The time-frame ranges to the modern era.
An interesting building, With its own stop on the no. 7 tram line, overlooking the attractive Rosa-Luxemberg-Platz, it’s the contents which really set it apart. With an airy central atrium, surrounded by well-planned galleries, the displays are brilliantly conceived and attractively presented. Who knew that archeology could be made to look so glamorous? The star exhibit (in more ways than one) is the stunning Bronze Age Nebra Sky Disc, the oldest representation of the cosmos in the world. But the other exhibits are pretty good as well. If you are in the area, it is most certainly worth a detour to visit.

This was a cute little museum attached to the factory and a chocolate shop which had free samples! It will take about 45 min - 90 min to go through the whole place.

Dive into the cult time of the BEATLES. Rarities, curiosities and famous items of the Beatles years (until 1970) and of the solo career time (1968 until today). Many of the exponates are signed by the BEATLES or persons of their surroundings, some even exclusively for the Beatles Museum.

It requires some effort to go up the tower, but it is worth it ! The view on Markt platz, the Roter Turm and Halle is amazing. If you decide to go up the Hausmanns Türme, you will also be able to discover it fascinating history as there is some English explanation. I would recommend going there if possible during the Christmas market at downfall to appreciate both the city view and then the market lights.

THE ZOO GARDEN HALLE – THE MOUNTAIN CALLS! In the midst of Halle’s beautiful countryside, flanked by old castles and the Saale River, the Zoo Garden Halle sits majestically upon a mountain overlooking the valley below. More than 1,700 animals in 250 species call him home. The twenty-two acre Zoo’s emphasis is on species and animals which are native to mountain regions all over the world. Visitors can also enjoy seeing endangered exotic animals such as elephants, sloths, anteaters, and squirrel monkeys. The architecture of the Zoo’s animal enclosures is visually-pleasing, giving his visitors the opportunity to easily get up close with lions, tigers and others behind panoramic windows. His natural geography makes him not only to Germanys only Mountain-Zoo but creates perfect vantage points high above many of his animal enclosures.

This is a most interesting, enwalled cemetery, good to spend some time there and look at the early modern arrangement of graves and epitaphs.
