Cannot recommend Tricky Escape highly enough! One of the bets things I've done in a long time. This is must next time you're in Clacton. We're going back to do the 80s room next time!

Constructed in 1931, the Princes Theatre is an impressive purpose built theatre, with an 820 seat auditorium. Jaywick Martello Tower

Jaywick Martello Tower was built in the early nineteenth century to protect the coastline from French invasion. Today, it is open to the public as an arts, heritage and community space. The Tower hosts a varied programme of exhibitions and events.

We had such a great visit here yesterday - we'd come out to Jaywick to walk on the beach for a bit and get out of the house (we live near Colchester) and were delighted to see the tower was open. We didn't have any cash on us (they ask for a £1 suggested donation) and we did try to give a donation via their card reader but they couldn't get it to work. We'll return with cash to give a proper donation! The person on the door was really lovely anyway and said it was only a suggested donation and not to worry. Really enjoyed the historic display downstairs, loved the artwork upstairs (and another very friendly man explaining the work and the one-way system to make sure we all socially distanced etc). We loved going onto the roof of the tower and looking out over the cannon, imagining what it must have been like waiting for ships to come over the horizon. Nine-year-old daughter really enjoyed the whole experience and so did we. We particularly liked the circular poem engraved around the edge of the path round the building.

Clacton Pier

Clacton Pier is officially the largest pleasure pier in the UK covering a staggering 6 1/2 acres. First opened in July 1871 as a landing stage for goods it was the first construction in the "new" town of Clacton-on-Sea. The town was initially built as a Holiday Destination for Londoners and with poor road access and no railway the pier was the main gateway for goods, holiday makers and locals alike.By 1922 the pier had fallen into receivership and was bough by Ernest Kingsman a businessman who saw the potential to start developing the wooden structure into an amusement destination. Amongst many other things he was responsible for all of the piers main extensions, including building the swimming pool, at least three theatres, adding the original steel Stella roller coaster and the blue lagoon dance hall. Since the kingsman family sold the pier in 1971 there has been a string of owners with the pier going into steady decline, until March 2009 when it was bought by the newly formed Clacton Pier company who has been investing heavily in the attraction. The pier now boasts a selection of new and refurbished family fun rides, Seaqurium sealife centre, 10 Pin bowling, the boardwalk bar, American diner, loads of eating places, great fish and chips, an activity zone and a function room named....The Kingsman Room................and there's a hell of all more in store so LIKE us on Facebook and visit our website to keep updated.
