Sandra is an outstanding massage therapist -- she is knowledgeable, intuitive, and her set-up in a cozy tent at Calheta Beach is just heaven! Everything is spotlessly clean and cozy, with fresh towels and a massage table that is hidden behind curtains for privacy. Sandra is so professional, respectful and caring, her hands immediately find all the trigger points and tense muscles, and she has an incredible healing touch. After a massage session with Sandra, you will feel like you are walking on clouds! Do not miss this experience! It's a real highlight for anyone who visits Calheta.

Our mission is to provide clients with a special experience raising awareness and understanding of the entire marine biodiversity of Madeira. There is one rule that we always keep in mind: We are the guests out there so we need to behave accordingly! We believe that our work is far more than a source of income and are committed to the Ocean and all its marine biodiversity. As a thank you for all the beautiful sightings of marine mammals, we had over the past years, the Lobosonda team works with heart and soul daily on ocean issues and its protection. We will take you into the “blue office” a beautiful and sensitive workplace. In the Ocean there are also laws that apply, the most important one: respect! Each species has a different character, varies their behaviour and the daily condition of the animals also plays a role on each sighting. Therefore we cannot guarantee sightings on every sailing but, our team does their best daily.

We are a small taxi company located in Calheta (between the south and the western end of the island) dedicated mainly to transport tourists, with a big goal - the satisfaction of our customers.
Ernesto was an excellent taxi driver and he taught me a lot about Madeira during the trips. I spent a wonderful time with him.

Madeira's first and only tiki bar, celebrating the historical link between Madeira and Hawaii. Located in Estreito da Calheta, Pukiki Tiki Bar brings you the biggest selection of rum in Madeira, tiki and classic cocktails. Madeira is known as the Hawaii of Europe. In the late 1800s many Madeirans set sail for Hawaii to work in the growing sugar cane industry. Madeira already had a long history of sugar cane production and a very similar sub-tropical climate to Hawaii which made Madeirans ideal workers for this job. They became known as Pukiki to native Hawaiians and influenced Hawaiian culture in many ways, most famously by introducing the Ukulele (known as machete in Madeira) and malassadas. Pukiki Tiki Bar celebrates the link between the islands. We are passionate about all things tropical, mid-century Polynesian Pop, Tiki cocktails and Rum based drinks made from sugar cane. Join us and share the aloha spirit!
Great little tiki bar that gets all the details right: the right music, the right drinks, the right atmosphere. No surprise as the staff is clearly passionate about everything tiki. There's even a direct history link (Madeira and Hawaii) that you can read up on while lounging on the roof terrace and sipping cocktails made with some of the best rums in the world. Definitely a winner.

I walked this section of "levada Nova", which appears by other names on different maps, as part of a wild camping journey that took me from a cold, wet Santo da Serra in the east of Madeira, to the exposed and breezy far west end, at Ponta do Pargo. The area around Prazeres is popular with day hikers, who wander on either direction along the contour of the levada, in a climate which is often among the mildest on the island. Prazeres itself is a scattered village of cottagers, typically hrowing their own potatoes, canbages and onions, as well as keeping chickens and goats. It has attracted many second home owners and renters and has its share of expats. Nevertheless, do not expect gentrification any time soon. Locals usually prefer to see unused properties fall down in ruins and remain unpersuaded to sell, aging parents often vainly hoping that long- emigrated children will one day return in triumph from Venezuela or South Africa to restore decrepit family homes and care for elderly parents. If you enjoy the experience of the real madeira, take this serpentine tamble through the quaint humour and tragedy of the hillside villages and meet the very genuine and charming? hard-working subsistence farming Madeirans.
