Boca Grande is an idyllic small town located on the west coast of Florida, not too far from Fort Myers and Sanibel. Boca Grande is a serene and naturally beautiful area, but there is no shortage of things to keep you and your family amused during the daytime. The Boca Grande Lighthouse Museum is an interesting and educational day trip. For the art lovers, the Paradise Island Gallery has some stunning pieces of art on display and is definitely worth a visit. For a little more excitement, hike through the Cayo Costa State Park. This excellent location has miles of stunning beaches, acres of pine forests, and water that is rich with sea life.

This is a nice little museum with very helpful staff. There is a lot of history in the displays and it is nicely done. It is good to go on a Thursday as there is additional staff on who let you handle various shark teeth (including a Megalodon!) and other assorted things from the sea.

Accessible only by boat, a ferry can take you to this island nature reserve known for its beautiful beaches and great collection of shells.
Cayo Costa State Park is officially sea shelling insanity. If you want to collect some amazing shells hop on a boat out here from Captiva (we took Captiva Cruises - excellent). When you get to the dock you'll walk just a minute or two until you get to the beach. Take a LEFT and start walking - and I mean WALKING about a mile down the beach - away from everyone else. We found amazing shells and sand dollars. Up your game by getting a scooper and a bag. It was chilly the day we went (60's, but I am from Arizona so anything less than about 75 is cold to me!) but the water was actually warmer than on Sanibel. Do not miss this place if you want some amazing shells.

Suggest you arrive early if you are going on the weekend. We rented a golf cart which made it easy for us to explore various sections of the State Park and be able to find parking. You pay $3 once at the park entrance and then can go anywhere and park in other sections of the park. Beautiful beaches and a nice place to find shells.

Best beach by far. Used to go to Englewood Beach but too many young, Spring breakers there, plus smokers! Now we go to Boca Grande, well worth the $6 for bridge. Not overly crowded. Beautiful water. You can sunbath & fish! Pretty white sand. There is a restaurant on the beach with chairs and a few tables; always crowded.. We take our Bloody Mary's and just chill out. Don't miss this beach. You will love it.

Port Boca Grande Lighthouse sits at the Southern tip of Gasparilla Island in Gasparilla Island State Park. The oldest structure on the island was built in 1890 and saw five Lighthouse Keepers and their families make this harbor-style dwelling home. The Light marks the entrance to Boca Grande Pass and is still an active aid to navigation. It currently houses a lovely history and nature museum and gift shop operated and maintained by Barrier Island Parks Society. Our mission is to Inspire, Educate, and Preserve. While there is no admission fee, it is operated on donations. Your donation at the front door and/or your purchase at the gift shop, keeps the Lighthouse Museum open to the public and provides for many educational programs throughout the four local barrier island state parks; Gasparilla Island State Park, Cayo Costa State Park, Don Pedro Island State Park and Stump Pass Beach State Park.
Recently, as part of a bus tour, we visited the Historic Boca Grande Lighthouse Museum. There were many interesting displays and exhibits. We were fortunate to have a volunteer lead us through the various rooms and tell us so much about the early inhabitants of Gasparilla Island, the export of phosphate from the island and the keepers of the light house. There is also a small gift shop. We learned a lot on our visit and highly recommend this to anyone visiting Florida.

We toured the island by bike. They have done a nice job with streets and plantings. Bike trails are shared with golf carts which gets a bit dicey at times. Good scenery. Plenty of outdoor facilities.
