Virginia can make American history come alive. Visit Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, tour Civil War battlefields, explore the living history museum at Williamsburg… the possibilities are endless (if the kids object, break up the historical sightseeing with a visit to Busch Gardens). Arlington, site of Arlington National Cemetery, is just across the Potomac River from all the major sites in D.C. In addition to beaches and historical attractions, Virginia has plenty to offer outdoor enthusiasts. Active families will love the Blue Ridge Highlands, where hiking, canoeing and tubing are just a few of the activities offered. Couples might enjoy a romantic mountain cabin in Virginia after a day of hiking in Shenandoah National Park.

The oldest, standing covered-bridge in Virginia.
A group of us rode motorcycles out to visit this bridge. It is a magnificent structure and I highly recommend it. The bridge is in a now park-like setting. Get your bike, ride there, visit and talk to the bridge. You will enjoy it.

At nearly 18 miles long, this bridge-tunnel complex is one of the engineering wonders of the world. Connecting Virginia's Eastern Shore with Virginia's mainland in Virginia Beach/Norfolk, this toll facility will save travelers 90 miles or more as they travel from points north of Wilmington, Delaware and head down the East Coast towards Virginia Beach or North Carolina's Outer Banks. Enjoy a stop at the Scenic Overlook, located on the southern tip of Virginia's Eastern Shore, offering breathtaking views of the Chesapeake Bay and the facility. AND, if you want to take home a remembrance of your travels, visit Virginia Originals Gift Shop, located inside the Welcome Center and Rest Area at the North Toll Plaza on Virginia's Eastern Shore. Construction of the Parallel Thimble Shoal Tunnel is underway and the facility will remain open to traffic throughout construction. Upon completion, a new fishing pier will open on the southernmost island in 2024. Don't forget your E-ZPass!
The Chesapeake Bay Bridge is an incredible sight. You drive for several miles over the bay and the views are breathtaking. You can see many ships in the bay and enjoy the smell of saltwater all the way across. Definitely a to do item.

Great spot for family photos both above and below the bridge. It is very quiet and the water is pretty clear. Lots of rocks - wear water shoes if you go so the rocks don’t hurt your feet.

Swinging Bridge is now open for pedestrian crossing!! I went with my family to see the swinging bridge, I was happy to see it was reopened after repairs. Buchanan is a true gem in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Be sure to also take a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway!!

If you find yourself in Woolwine, Virginia on hwy 8 be sure to stop by Jack's Creek covered bridge. This is an authentic covered bridge. Situated just off the highway on a beautiful clear stream, this is an example of bygone days and a piece of history. Covered bridges are becoming scarce. Wether you are a photographer or a family looking for a pleasant place to spend a few minutes this is ideal. You can even get your feet wet or cool down in a clear mountain stream!

A historical stop on the Segway tour. Sad but interesting history. Great views of James River, rapids, and Richmond river front. Walking bridge over James River with interesting Richmond Civil War quotes in the planks. See photos.

Coastal Virginia’s tallest bridge stretches across the Elizabeth River’s Southern Branch and offers sweeping, panoramic views from its soaring architectural curves. Explore the mile-long crossing by car (toll), bicycle or on foot via the protected, award-winning Pedestrian Walkway (free) with a 5% grade. At 169' atop the South Norfolk Jordan Bridge, you can see for miles in every direction!
So use to the old Jordan bridge that when you see this version you cant help but say WOW! It has a wonderful walking/jogging area so you can go across in an exercising mode. Beautiful little park on the South Norfolk side but lacks parking space on the Portsmouth side.

We enjoyed driving through this tunnel. We learned even more about how it was built and the nature of it as we took our cruise on the Harbor Cruise. It is very safe and very clean. Not as long as I thought it would be, which was nice!
