While Atlanta is the anchor and capital of Georgia, you can aim in any direction to find distinctly different regions – from the tail of the Appalachians in the North to the rolling Piedmont hills and on down to the seaside marshes in the East. Atlanta lays claim to the state’s number one attraction – Stone Mountain State Park. They say it best - “Serious fun. Endless adventure.” Just 15 minutes from downtown, the world’s largest exposed granite dome is surrounded by 3,200 acres of natural beauty and stimulating activities for every member of the family – sky rides and hiking paths, laser shows and pedal boats along Stone Mountain Lake. Golfers tee it up, while red foxes dash across the fairways in a state where the Masters Golf Tournament creates revered green-jacket memories every year. It’s a long downhill ride down to historic Savannah, a ‘stone’s throw’ from the Atlantic and a virtual step back in time to Southern architecture and stately squares. St. Simon’s and Jekyll Islands offer barrier island beauty and a wonderful combination of outdoor activities, historic sites and artistic culture. Originally the private winter playground of wealthy northeasterners, Jekyll Island stretches along 10 miles of coastal beaches and inland marshes. Cycling and walking paths wind under moss-laden oaks, and a tour of Millionaire Village takes you back to those Cornelius Vanderbilt and J.P. Morgan days. The kid-friendly Summer Waves Water Park adds man-made fun to natural water sport activities. Coastal golf courses and sophisticated St. Simon’s Island appeal to moms, dads and vacationing couples.

This bridge is the last remaining one designed by Horace King in the 1800’s. In addition, it’s the oldest covered bridge in Georgia and in terms of approaches, the longest. Pretty cool!

This very appealing, 185 foot tall, 1.9 miles long, four lane, modern suspension Bridge, connecting Downtown Savannah to Hutchinson Island, is located in just the right spot to create a visually delightful sight from the Riverfront. It is like a work of art that has become a stunning backdrop for the landscape – primarily at sunset. Who would not be impressed by such a magnificent bridge spanning that Savannah River, especially when the massive Panama-x Cargo Ships look like they are barely able to make it as they cross under it, while they make their slow way in and out of the Shipyard? We certainly had our jaws drop at that sight. Wow! On one of our tours, we learned that the city of Savannah is trying hard to take corrective actions in righting past wrongs, and were in discussions about re-naming it for someone less offensive than a well-known, old-school, racist Conservative. In 2017, they passed a resolution to rename it as “Savannah Bridge”. They are now waiting for the Georgia State Government to confirm the resolution that has already been passed. You cannot miss it if you are walking around on Factor’s Walk, or the Riverfront. It absolutely deserves its spot as a key feature in most of the picture postcards.

Euharlee is a very pleasant town with friendly people. It's a quiet and quaint place to relax or throw a wedding! The town boasts gorgeous parks for nature lovers. I'll be back to star-gaze! The Washington King-built covered bridge is the jewel of the town and worth a visit to simply wile away an afternoon for a picnic. Or stop by the local outfitter and set out on a float along the Etowah Creek that flows beneath the beautiful bridge!

Neat old covered bridge is worth the trip to see when visiting Watkinsville or the Athens area. I played under the bridge with my friends as a kid. My grandparents were good friends with the owners of the property where the covered bridge was located, so I visited there often as a kid. It’s a ten minute excursion where you can get a nice photo and see history.

We really enjoyed this short hike with our dog, especially being able to soak our paws in the cool river! The dirt road to the parking area is very ROUGH, lots of holes to dodge & tight turns. We made it in our minivan, but it was not easy.

I had heard of this place all my life but had never been. Didn’t know was so close to where we live. Great place for picnic or to just play in the water. Most of the picnic tables are shaded and if your lucky you might snag a table by the river. The falls are flat and you can walk out in the water. There is a covered bridge, one of the 12 in Georgia. It is dog friendly. Great place to spend the day.

It gives a cool view of skyline of Atlanta. A perfect selfie spot. Park the car at MLK memorial park and walk down to the bridge. Parking @ MLK is free.
