This is a great cycle ride or a couple of days. Pretty flat until you come off at the 31 miles that are not really for cycling and the route through some nice villages. I’ve done it a few times over the years and never get tired of it.

You can walk from Knightstone Island, either across the causeway or along the Cove itself, to Anchor Head and Birnbeck Pier. There is a cafe at Anchor Head. I always admire the almost-Continental shrubbery along the rocks lining the Cove. Also there seems to be many more benches in memory of dear departed ones all along the rockeries lining the Cove. Madeira Cove has an atmosphere of its own, very calming and relaxing, even in the wind although it's usually less windy hereabouts as it is somewhat sheltered. We had a delicious stroll, admiring the views on all sides. The sun was low in the sky and was streaming across the water! Absolutely lovely. We're so lucky to have beautiful walks like this.

Great place of peace and tranquillity, my wife stayed in the car and had a sleep whilst I walked around the marshes, this made it even more peaceful, would recommend. There's life everywhere, the hide's are in good condition, the paths very obvious. Like other's have said, being very flat makes it a lovely easy walk to take at a very leisurely pace.

A lovely canal to have in the middle of Bridgwater linking to Taunton and other nearby villages. Excellent for walking, running, cycling, boating, fishing or just to stop by at the cafe for tea and cake watching passers by. Equally friendly for dog walkers too. The canal itself is dirty though so just be mindful if you're kayaking etc. However, there are good spots to stop for a rest and bite to eat with your sailing vessel. I've walked and cycled to Taunton and back. It's an easy flat level with some lovely views on a good, clear day. Do expect muddy, slippery terrain during wet, winter months. Generally the walking area of the canal is reasonably looked after. A good place to just get away from it all.

I know the Lake so well, but it still surprises me. From cold 2C water in winter to warm 20+C in summer, it is wonderful to swim in this free resource, only please donate to MARLENS, the charity responsible for the Lake upkeep. The water varies from clear to very silty after very high tides have overtopped and refreshed the water. If you are new to open water swimming, take care as it can be dangerous. The Lake is frequented by friendly swimmers who will help with advice. Please, NO dogs

Well worth a visit to the resevoir. Its a lovely flat 3.5km circular walk around the reservoir, not too strenuous and suitable for all. We went on a slightly cloudy day but take note if the temperature climbs above 23 degress then the resevoir can shut to stop people swimming in it. Check the website before you go. We took a picnic and found a lovely spot to eat just past the kayaks. Lovely walk and suitable for all ages.

apex park is a wildlife park with lakes in Burnham on sea
My family and I would recommend this place as you have a big Lake for feeding the ducks and swans. Picnic area. Big play area, skateboard park. Football pitch. Lovey walk around the lake. A meal van that does exactent food. It joins Highbridge to Burnham-on-Sea. Also you have a river walk that you can access via the park that takes you to the beach.

My companion and I stopped at Chew Valley Lake to admire the view and the hundreds of beautiful birds including mallard ducks, terns, swans, water wagtails and many more I was unable to identify. I do know this is a good place for trout fishing as I once had the privilege of eating a trout freshly caught that day from this lake. Today we had to make do with an ice cream from the van parked nearby. He was doing a fairly good trade in spite of the chilly wind. We sat there for some time, eating our ice creams and admiring the gorgeous surroundings. Must go again soon armed with a bag of bird seed (but you must never give them bread!).
